I just...I love her. She's got so much passion fierceness and is clearly talented. I just don't feel totally comfortable with a 10-year-old girl pelvic thrusting/popping that much. I'm clearly in the minority on that note, but..yeah.

She does other types of dance too I believe. I agree...but I also don't feel comfortable with 30% of what goes on in the cheer world.

Umm.. I'm sorry. Sounds like there are way too many twerkhaters up in the room

I think I'm getting old. Sure, she's a talented little girl but that dance is in NO WAY age appropriate. I'd be mortified if someone taught my future daughter a routine like that! She can surely use her dance skills in a more age appropriate way.

Dont take your dad to a dance competition without depends then ;)

Its pretty standard for the dance world lol
Now...and definitely on the west coast. 10 years ago we would have gotten deductions HARDCORE. My old dance company did a 'Big Spender' number. For one competition they had dollar bills slipped under their top straps. They got a warning to not do it again because it was 'too sexual'. Now it's standard in the dance world for 9 year olds to do moves that should be saved for the privacy of your own home...or the club (which I don't go to anyway- sweaty people pack like sardines? No thank you! :p) Again, she's clearly talented and most of it didn't bother me, it's more just...sad.

I read a fascinating article somewhere online about congruity between actions and cognitive development in young girls in modern society. It was focused on the amount of sexually-implied information they're being fed in their everyday life and how it's much younger than before. It mentioned about how young girls are mimicking these things or processing the information without fully comprehending what they're doing/seeing/experiencing. Really really interesting article, didn't finish it though (had to run to work). Wish I could find it- definitely a worthy read! :D

I couldn't agree more. You said this in a great way.

I personally, wouldn't let my daughter do this. And she is 13.
And no way a choreographer could do a dance for any of my teams that involves something like that.
Yes, for sure, cheer and dance are not the same.
But still. I think we would get deductions for most of these moves. Everything in a routine has to be family friendly, i guess even a senior Team would at least get a warning.

This girl is so talented that she could work a dance routine without all these moves and still be awesome.
