All-Star Twerk Ban

Twerking is dumb and I agree with the ban as little girls should not be doing that but I can see where people are coming from on the other side. People are always going to have different views on what's sexual, what's acceptable, etc. Does one persons values matter more than someone else's? Nope. That's what makes this country great. You're free to do what you please (within reason) and you have the right to whatever opinion you want to have. Sex has been and always will be a hot topic.

So....I don't actually disagree with @mccracal on most of this. However, it's painfully obvious that they were the kid in school that would tell teachers that they weren't the boss of them, bring up freedom of speech on the regular, and bring up how their constitutional rights were being infringed upon when being disciplined. It's actually making me giggle, so I appreciate every second of it.
Preach on, but realize that people were over this 5 pages ago and aren't going to stop arguing back until you simmer down and realize you're being a bit excessive with your pro-twerking stance.

Is anyone interested in getting "Keep Calm and let the Shouters twerk" t-shirts made? :-p

Anxiously waiting for it to leak...

F5 was announced as medium. I ended up getting really distracted tonight while I was trying to figure out who my favorite large senior team is going to be--still working out the kinks, but of course my loyalties are heavily pointing towards Orange.

Lord I feel lost in Oz with this thread.

You and me both sister. I didn't know if I should be taking notes or just lmao. It was a fun time killer on my day off though, I'll give it that much.

I don't think anyone expected a debate in the Twerk Ban thread. Oy vey.

Actually, I've always had really great relationships with my teachers (I'm facebook friends with several of them), and the last time I was formally "disciplined" was when I got a half hour lunch detention in 6th grade for not closing the lock on my locker. My teachers/professors/parents have always encouraged me to speak my mind as long as I can reasonably (and respectfully) back up my arguments. I've really made an effort to not be rude or excessively sassy in my comments, so I sincerely apologize if my posts have come across as aggressive or insulting.

It's kind of really funny to me that I come off as one of those aggressive activist-y people online, because I'm actually incredibly apathetic in real life. I was ready for this thread to be over after the 2nd page so I could get back to focusing on a 5 hour House Hunters marathon. Again, I'm not "pro-twerk"; I'm "pro-acknowledge that someone who doesn't think of twerking as vulgar may have a legitimate argument, even if you don't agree with it". I guess some people disagree, but I don't think that's a particularly excessive stance to have.

Thus the need for the image policy being implemented.

ehhh... not a big fan of that either after "proposed image policy" set forth by the USASF (they have such a way w/words  IIRC w/their male "image" policy they retracted). As many people have noted that they feel that is a subjective thing across the country, some areas being more conservative than others, etc.

To elaborate on my initial post- the one thing that bothers me is what they've focused on as being a big issue and the way it's perceived by many . "Fierce" dancing has been totally acceptable and encouraged, and there are plenty of teams who "twerk" in one form or another during their dance portions. Now some may have a specific "negative" image of what twerking is in their heads (excessive "booty" popping), but that's not all twerking is. They feel like it's trashy and the thing that doesn't sit well w/me is that I almost feel like some people consider it "ghetto", but word it differently by calling it trashy. I feel like that borders on certain cultural/ethnic differences of what's considered "acceptable" and/or "appropriate" and that's the part that doesn't sit well w/me. There are children/adolescent competitive ballroom dancers who require MUCH more sexualized and/or sensuous dancing, yet there aren't any rules against it bc it's too "sexy".

Now certainly any gym has the right to implement any program/set of rules they wish and it's a consumer's right to decided if it's the right for them. But setting that aside for the sake of answering the question, there's my more detailed explanation.

After all, it is a hip-hop style of dance that basically originated from the New Orleans "bounce" style dancing (and some say from a mix of krumping)

i tried so hard to follow this thread but its almost 4 am and i just dont have the will power to read an entire novel written every 3 posts. my head hurts
:banghead:

personally i do have a problem with the amount of twerking vines (especially the 10 year olds), and i really do think its completely inappropriate, however i could be the only one but i have never watched a video and thought "oh my god they cheer at ____? wow that program looks terrible". i personally have never connected it to the gym, because normally it is in no way connected. i do think it looks extremely unclassy on the PERSON, but i personally feel it doesn't do anything to the gym (unless its filmed in the gym with an entire mini team twerking with their coach..) just my opinion though!

Omg I'm dying laughing over here at the thought of this!!!

Note to everyone.......if you see a twerk vine from little bit please text me ASAP. I will twerk a knot in her butt so fast! LMAO But seriously
In tears over here Missy! No way I could ever see her doing that...LMAO
IIRC she's not particularly fond of it herself I think..
