What is so unfair about large programs (like Twisters) who choose a division other than large? Better yet why is it ok for some large programs to have large level 5 teams while others can be small or medium? It seems as though fans have gotten a little overzealous believing that they have the right to hold a program to a particular division for their own personal enjoyment. This is completely unfair and unrealistic. Every year each program graduates athletes, losses athletes dues to other interests, and gains new athletes which obviously dictates the selection process for the upcoming season. Regardless of "Tradition" every gym owner and coach has to right to strategize when selecting divisions for the new season to give their athletes a fair shot at achieving success especially since the tradition factor is theirs and not anyone else's.

A great a example of this theory would be Cheer Athletics! In my opinion they are the epitome of what are large gym/business should be yet they haven't remained traditional to divisions that have made their program famous. The CA Jags were NCA champions 7 years in row making them the most decorated Large Junior team in all star history. After they fell short of number 8 they decided to revamp and choose another division. The same can be said about CA Panthers who have been NCA champions 9 times and World Champions 2 times in the Large Senior division yet they've competed as a small team (World Champions 2011), moving on to medium (World Champions 2012), and now only having returned to the Large Senior for one season (Bronze Medalist). So is it ok for them but not for Twisters? The Stingrays All Stars have been a large program winning the Small Senior division at The Cheerleading Worlds a precedented 6 times yet this upcoming season will only be the second season they've had a large senior team and that's fine? ACE Cheer Company, California All Stars, Charlotte All Stars, East Celebrity Elite, Fame All Stars, Gym Tyme All Stars, ICE All Stars, Texas Lonestar Cheer Company, Top Gun All Stars, and Woodlands Elite are large programs who could field a large senior team yet they don't. Should the be required just because they have the numbers to do so? I think not!

At the end of the day division selection is up to the gym owners and coaches who run the programs. In today's world of rubrics and quantity scoring all star competition has developed so greatly that it requires more than just "Numbers" to field a competitive team than it used to many years. Division changes should be expected and as spectators we need to stop acting like cheerleading is Hollywood. Enjoy the performances for what they are and not for the creation of rivalries & hoopla! The Maryland Twisters F5 have been a large senior team for 15 years faithfully watching many other large gyms change divisions over the years to suit their needs. Now it's time for them to do the same and you can bet your last dollar that they'll still pack a punch, still be fierce as ever, and still rise to the occasion!

Good luck to every All Star program preparing for the upcoming season! May you all be the best you've ever been. I can't wait to watch!

I agree with u which is why I said "I don't know there reason and won't comment on it". It's also why I said gyms "like twisters" and not twisters singularly, and lastly why I said " in my fairy tale cheer world". I dont think they did anything wrong, or anything not done before. My issue is not with the twisters program or their decision but in the fact that the rules allow for Such. in High School cheer (at least in my area) your division is decided by the number of kids in your school and thus the amount of talent you have access to. It doesnt matter if you lose every year you can not decide to change divisions. If 10 of your varsity athletes graduate you rebuild in the same division. Coaches learn to focus more on the JV team and to build for the future bcuz they cant say oh were rebuilding so we will just go D3 this year. I will clarify my statement again to say I truly wish the divisions were divided differently maybe this will be accomplished if we succeed at the division I/II split but to me there is no comparison between a gym with 16 level 5 athletes who puts 4 lvl 4 kids on the team to make 20 and a gym with 200 lvl 5 athletes who chooses top 20 to make up a small senior team. Just like there is no comparison between a school of 4000 who chooses 20 from 150 at try outs and a school of 1000 who chooses 20 from 24 at try outs.

Y'all Twisters made the most teams/best combination of teams they could have with the athletes they had. If they went large senior, WG and Reign would be short athletes and not nearly as competitive. I really don't see the problem.

I totally agree with your argument but on a different note, didn't Panthers get 2nd this year in Large senior? Maybe it was just a mistake but you said they were bronze medalist

I don't get the argument for MDT not being able to have teams in smaller sized divisions. I don't know exact numbers, but MDT is probably between 400-500 athletes. Gyms like CEA, Stingrays, and Cheer Athletics are all around 1000+. But that's still fair?

AND they have another medium team and a small team. Plus if switching will up their chances of winning GO FOR IT! I'd rather have a ring than 6 more people on my team.

Here is why I have am issue. Originally you were either small, 20 and under, or large 21 and over ppl had issue with that and thought it unfair for big gyms (like twisters) who could put 36 kids on the floor to be up against teams who may only have 25-30 kids. So the idea was birthed to split the division and level the playing field (at least numbers wise). I thought this was a great idea as it allowed teams of 32 to drop 2 ppl and go med instead of dropping 12 to go small, it completely reverses the system when you have gyms with hundreds of athletes that CHOOSE to compete in the smaller division. I don't know there reason and won't comment on it, I will just say in my fairytale cheer world teams are decided based on the number of lvl 5 athletes in a gym. If ur gym has 31-36 you compete large, 20 or less you compete small 21 to 30 you compete medium. If you have enough to have multiple teams well than that works too. Give as many kids an opportunity to be on the floor as deserve to be there. Point blank, period.

It's not called small gym senior or small gym medium senior. If a gym wants to stack all their best athletes on one small team they have every right to do so.

Hahaha I was waiting for someone to go there. I am aware that Panthers were Silver Medalists this past season (Congrats to them) and unfortunately due to the time limit allowed on edits I was unable to correct my mistake. Regardless I'm sure everyone got the point. Thanks! ;)

I'm personally really excited to see F5 in medium. I don't expect any less from them, if anything I expect more. I can't wait to see what they put on the floor this year, I know they won't disappoint. I also just wanted to mention, Panthers won the Majors in 2012 when they were medium and Aces won in 2013....F5, please continue the tradition.
