Yep. Even as a parent it's depressing when it's over. I still have all my mom and coach friends I've made over the years, and it's so sad to see all the cheer stuff on Facebook and know that it's over for us. It's astonishing to me how overwhelmingly sad that makes me sometimes. I know my cp is excited to be growing up and experiencing all these new life changes, but she's having a tough time dealing with no more cheer.

It's just so overwhelming. Like one minute it's your life and the next it's just gone and over. It's been two years and an ankle surgery and I'm still like wow I miss cheerleading so much.

I wish someone would have told me to:
1. Ignore the gossiping, drama-queen mom's. (EVERY gym has them) Don't even engage in a conversation with them. They will try to suck you into their drama. Just worry about your own child and don't be afraid to tell the drama queens you are not interested in hearing any gossip.
2. Let the coaches coach. Talk to them if you need to in a rational way. If you still disagree, then move to a different gym AFTER THE SEASON IS FINISHED unless there is a legitimate safety concern.
3. Whatever is told to your regarding cost, expect to pay more.
4. Unless your child is going to dedicate his/herself 12 months a year, don't do a full allstar team. Sign up for a prep team or a city/Pop Warner rec team. It is totally unfair to the children who are die-hard competitive cheerleaders.
5. Sit back and enjoy the ride.!!! It is a wild, exciting one.

Tumbling is important! It's not impossible to move up levels if you can't tumble but it is a big, big help if you can! Take it from the girl that is yet to pass level 2 because she can't tumble and is an average stunter! It wasn't until I switched gyms to my current team in 2011 that I realised how vital it is and I wish I'd been told sooner.

I wish someone would have really stressed to me the importance of "choosing a gym wisely".
I would go as far as asking people who left the gym, why they left and most importantly how they were treated by the staff and other athletes/parents when they did leave. Could have saved myself a lot of drama.

We need a shimmy x1000 button for posts like these!!
Points 1-5 all on the money 100%!!

The grass is never greener on the other side, it's usually the exact same shade.
Every gym has some of the same issues, though some definitely have more than others
If a parent says "I'm not one of those parents" they are
You'll meet some crazy people, and they'll wind up being your closest friends

The cheer world is a small one. You

The friends you make are friends for life.
