It's so cool to see American dorms! They're so much prettier than our's, we're not allowed to change anything and if we leave any blu-tac or pin holes in the walls then we have to pay for them to be repainted! All the furniture in my room was fixed as well. (Only now do I realise I never took a good picture of my room)

As you're looking at the picture, on the right was a wardrobe built into the wall and on the left was my ensuite (tiny wet room with a toilet and sink, nothing fancy) which is why the bed looks like it's round a corner, the ensuite juts out into the room.

Over here absolutely all rooms are single, there were 16 rooms on a corridor and we all had our own ensuite bathroom. We shared two kitchens, each kitchen had two sinks/fridges/microwaves/ovens etc.

And this was my favourite wall in my room last year, we moved out of Halls and rented a house :)

Ours may be prettier but yours looks so spacious compared to most here! Plus you have your own bathroom and don't have to bring a fridge and microwave! I love your little bow display!

Thank you! :) There was the option to share a bathroom but it wasn't too much extra per month to have my own so I thought why not! We usually move out of university accommodation in our second year and stay in town, do students in America tend to stay in dorms?

I don't have a picture yet as well but last year my roommate and I were both cheering so our apartment was nothing but cheerleading. As soon as you walked in from the. Door to the living everything was cheer related our couch had a cover on it and it was custom made with all worlds teams on it and don't get me started with the kitchen accessories

At my school it's pretty much dorms for the first year and then on campus apartments for the next three. Some people move to apartments in town or rent a house. It all really depends on where you go to school. Like my cousin goes to another school in my state and is still in a dorm this year (I think) and it's her third year.

when i move in i'll post some pictures!
(but i don't move in until labor day!)
just realized i never did this - oops! But I will now, even though i'm two years out of this dorm already!
SO, i shared a suite style residence with 3 other girls - we each had our own bedroom, shared two full bathrooms and shared one kitchen/living room!

Most people stay their freshman year, some stay sophomore year but most move to student apartments. Some schools have housing for upperclassmen that's nicer than dorms, other places you have to find a place in town. for Mizzou there's lots of apartment complexes around town considered "student apartments" that aren't actually owned by the school or anything, it's just a lot of students live there.

This is related but also unrelated but not worthy of a new thread.

My sister moves into her dorm next Friday.

I want to put together a basket of "stuff" to give her...aside for the tons of dorm/apt essentials my parents have already purchased.

So strictly trinkets of "stuff".

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking:

Burts Bees
Make up type items
A rape whistle...

Pepper Spray, Flashlight, picture of you and her together are just some ideas :)

As a rising sophomore I can try and give you a couple of my freshman year essentials:
- A pack of the Starbucks frappaccinos/refresher energy drinks or just a gift card to Starbucks or a local place.
- A cute decorated frame of you both or your entire family. (I got to school and realized I wished I had pictures in my room!)
- The white christmas lights to hang in her room! You don't expect to need them but they made my room so much more relaxing and added just a little something.
- A baseball hat from her school for those bad hair days.
- Buy her favorite candies/snacks in bulk!
- An eye mask for mid-day napping!
- A plastic cup with a straw (if her dining halls allow her to take food/drink out that's definitely a money saver!!)

Y'all just reminded me of a very important addition to my list.. GET A GOOD PAIR OF SHOWER SANDALS!! A lot of my friends wore regular flip flops and every time I tried to do that I almost fell. I used a nice pair of like athletic sandals I got with a pair of cheer shoes. Like save your lives and get a pair with a little traction.
