Really? I don't think flyers should stay flyers.... I think of all people they should be the ones cross training. What happens when a new girl comes in who's smaller and more flexible? Or if there are more flyers than stunt groups? A lot of girls fly when they're young but can't stay flyers forever. Not ever flyer necessarily flies in every sequence. Some girls do but it's pretty likely that at some point they'll need to base something (even just a prep in a pyramid) so cross training flyers is the most important, IMO. Plus then they understand what it's like and can improve as flyers after experiencing basing. (Sorry if this sounded harsh or condescending. It's not intended to be at all! Just sharing my opinion but I realize it might be taken as an attack)
I'll have to disagree. CP has done both and the knowledge of each position has helped her get stronger in each. For example, basing helped her in flying because she knew what the bases needed to do. Since she had flown, she knew what she needed to do as a base.

IMO Cross training is a YES. although I think it should be done over the summer if possible, when you have plenty of time. Experiencing one position helps you better understand what to do in the other positions. Having based, I know how to back better than I would w/o having based because I know what the bases need me to do. Maining helped me secondary (my old secondary didn't do much so when I secondary I really try to take as much weight as I can off the main). And basing helps you understand what it's like on the bottom so when you fly you understand the struggle of balancing someone who's balancing herself, the importance of staying tight, etc.

I have to disagree. I think all flyers should be taught how to base, at least up to basic libs and body positions. I didn't mean another flyer coming in, I meant in the future, what happens when they aren't the tiny one? And what happens to the flyer who got replaced? she stands in the back? We have tiny "2 lb" girls who can fly and choose to base, so it's not like the little ones can't. There's always going to be someone smaller than you and if you get pushed out of the air by a better flyer, you need to have an idea of what to do on the ground or else you're useless and stuck nuggeting in the back? Honestly I think if somebody only knows how to do one stunt position, they're not very useful to the team. You need to be versatile (even if you're tiny), it'll come in handy in college and you'll be an advantage to any team you're on.Yes, but when I said that flyers should "pretty much" stay flyers, it was meant for the girls who weigh like 2lbs.. As a coach you're not going to have them try to lift a girl who should be basing but woke up and decided she wanted to try flying - not everyone is a flyer, or should be one, that's why when your coaching and you choose your flyers, that's pretty much what they're doing all season, and they should know how to base a prep in a pyramid, that's not a big deal, and if another "flyer" joins later, the way I do it is that she has to earn her spot in the air, or if one of my flyers can't hit the stunt, she gets replaced by someone who can
