Has anyone tried balancing cheering for college and open all-star, is it too much? Or should you choose one or the other? Do most gyms work with you if you live far away?

I super seniored and super super seniored my freshman and sophomore year. It was the same team I had cheered on for the previous 4 years, so my coach worked with me if I had something mandatory for school, but I honestly don't remember it being an issue. I will say that I am a very organized person, and am not a procrastinator, so it worked out fine for me. If I knew I had practice or a competition all weekend, I made sure I studied or did my assignments early, so I didn't have to worry about not being prepared or turning things in late. College is a hard enough adjustment without your parents there making sure you're getting everything done. You definitely have to be self motivated and be on top of the ball, but if you're willing to work hard for it, you can do it.

The only downside I'd say is that if you want to do any extra curricular things at school, it may not work out. Forget pledging for a sorority or joining other big clubs. You just don't have the time.

I waited until my sophomore year to adjust to college life before I did both. I cheered at both Clemson and Rockstar and it worked out the one year I did it. You need to make sure both sides are understanding and supportive. We had a lot of Clemson girls on Killers at the time, and everyone at Rockstar was very understanding about our practice/game schedule. It also helped that we only practiced once a week on Sundays, and the only thing that ever really interfered was basketball games. Bottom line:make sure both parties know what you are getting into, and be prepared to make a decision if one party is not okay with it. Hopefully it will work out-that was hands down my favorite year cheering! It's a lot of work but totally worth it. Good luck!

I had the same question! I'm planning on cheering in college and doing an international team (the teams I'm doing its common to do both) so I was wondering how people handle that.

It depends on what type of school you're cheering for. I cheered Division I and we had 4-5 practices per week plus games on Saturday for football and 2-3 games a week for basketball. On top of the some Division I schools require media relations, helping with sports recruiting and press releases.

Very true! I did all star my freshman and sophomore year, then college my junior and senior year. I don't know that I would have been able to do both at the same time. My college team (D1) practiced 5 times a week, football games on Saturdays (home and away), basketball games on any day (it changed week-to-week), team workouts twice a week, study hall, appearances, extra nationals team practices in the spring, etc. I was barely able to have an internship my senior year with cheerleading. It's A LOT. It goes way beyond just going to practice and cheering at a game.

My CP has done both. UofL and GT are somewhat one and the same and they work well together. It was tuff her 2nd year withsome of the demands but it all worked out.

My daughter cheered football and basketball at Christopher Newport Univ and on an open team at Fame her freshman year. She was on CNU's competition team as well. She was busy, and loved every minute of it!!

UofL is actually one of my top choices, and I was thinking about cheering GT. How did she like it?

She LOVES it.. Everything about it. Cheering Bowl Games, Final Four, NCA, Cheersport, Daytona and Worlds. She is at the Gym about 5 hrs a night between the 2 teams.

As a parent I enjoy Louisville, seeing her on TV at the games, and at Allstar Comps.. GO BIG or Go Home.. lol

I'm looking at Richmond and doing DreamGirls at the Midlo location. What type of skills do those girls generally have? You can PM me if that works better.

I did it my junior and senior year. We only practiced on Sundays for my open team, and didn't go to Worlds. It got tough closer to Daytona time, but my coaches were pretty understanding. More cheering could only make me better.

Where are you thinking of going??

Well obviously I haven't even started applying yet, but I'd really like to go to Towson and cheer for them, and also do Maryland Twisters Black Ice or Lady T's. In a perfect world of course haha
