Coaching and lows ? It's been stifling hot here with temps going up to 106 farenheit with the humidity. The other day I was coaching and had a meeting right after but checked my bg and was at 2.5 mmol (45 mgdl) and I didn't even feel it! I don't even know how I was carrying on a conversation and not on the floor:/

:shimmy:
Who here has it or is the parent of an athlete with it?

how do you manage it with competitions and practices etc.

I'm newly diagnosed and having a bit of trouble sometimes keeping my bg's in target...thanks :)

Thanks in advance for all tips and comments :)

I have diabetes and for practices I take my pump off and check my blood sugar before and after practice I always have snacks just in case I feel or I am low and nothing has happened at cheer that I couldn't do because I have diabetes

I have found that I never go low during a practice I'm always high. So I end up needing to do a correction shot to bring it down which really stinks. The worst I get is a headache. But so far I haven't had any real issues either which is great! I went away for the weekend and my bg's were ALL over the place. Something to be said about sticking to a schedule. I ended up bolusing wrong and guessed carbs wrong. Need to download that carb king app on my phone instead of just on my iPhone. Also I'm on a medication that raises bg and its either that thats making me go higher than usual or my honeymooning is ending which really stinks.

are you on a pump? perhaps you can give yourself a small dose as you are going into practice so you can stay level. Jenee used to get high during practice because her pump was off and she wasnt getting her basil insulin, so now she doese a little during practice to stay level. Practice is one place I am sure the diabetic alert dog will help her:)

I'm not on a pump yet! I have to be on MDI a year first:( gonna see if I can get around that! I never thought of bolusing before practice. Ill try that next week! We are off this week for coaches training. Ya that will for sure help at practice with the D alert dog! Have you had that interview yet? Hopefully it's soon:)

Her dog will be mobbed at the gym! Lol. Are they like a regular service dog where you can't pet them, distract them, etc?

That's just amazing to me that the dogs can do that! What a blessing.
