My little sister's JV squad had to have a teacher/moderator, a coach, and an assistant coach. Since they were missing the assistant coach, I volunteered to step in since I have a background in dance/choreography & (bonus!) certification as a First Responder just in case of injuries.

I thought my job would be helping them stay in their lines and look sharp during chants and cheers. Now all of a sudden, things are very different. The JV is combining with Varsity so that they can be a competition squad and my little sister, who is a flyer, is getting stepped up into all kinds of new, crazy stunts.

I'm feeling overwhelmed with my new position because I feel SO responsible for everybody being safe and I'm worried sick that little sis is gonna break her neck. Our mom would DIE if she could see practice. I think it'll all be ok but kinda panicking right now and need someone to talk me down.... ha

Take a breathe. Sounds like you got asked to help because you knew what you were doing.

Thanks Sharkdad :) As you can tell, I'm a worrier. Ive gotten a little better tho cause I've been watching them practice & I see how careful everyone is trying to be. I love my sis's stunt group too cause they will totally break their own necks making sure she doesn't touch the ground. Sis also stays tight when a stunt fails (instead of flailing around like I've seen some girls do) so it makes it easier to bear hug her & she isn't elbowing somebody in the mouth. (In her words, she says "Yeah, I'm a good faller." hahaha)

Just remember to stay calm and make a plan. I coached a mid year all star team last year and felt very overwhelmed at times my biggest advice is if you get frustrated with something walk away and go back to it later. Just keep reminding the girls it's about having fun and don't let them see you stress . Hope that helps

you just need to have faith in the stunt group and your sister. Make sure that new stunts have spotters just in case. DOnt let them do the stunt if you feel it could actually cause an injury. Just take a deep breath and trust your team!!!

I know the feeling. I volunteered to assist my friend who said she would head coach her daughters team (even though she has noe xoereience) and she spent the ENTIRE season FREAKING OUT about any stunting (even the basic baby stunts like thigh stands). I eventually just had to tell her to walk away when she felt nervous because that freaks the girls out too. Just try to stay calm and remember that these girls all have a vested interest in making that stunt work so their going to protect the flyer at all costs...

Thanks y'all :) I was doin good for awhile coz I totally trust Little's stunt group but then the head coach introduced a stunt & put Little sis in a different stunt group for it & it's making me tear my hair out. I posted about it in Skills forum if anyone cares to read it & give me some advice!
