All-Star Hey! We Resemble That?

Well, I would clarify that to say it requires funding and safety and coaches etc. it doesn't provide it. I'm a high school principal in a state where school cheer is recognized by our state athletic association at least tangently...but trust me when I say no funds accompany that whatsoever. And there aren't specific requirements the coaches have to have or equipment needs to be.

However I agree with a pp. Be careful what you wish for. People on these boards get sideways if they're limited from wearing a French maid uniform with a 5 inch bow. Being declared a sanctioned sport comes with a terrible lot of requirements that I can't imagine the AS community being happy about even if they were suddenly "legit."

Prepare to be shocked.

LOL, this thread certainly didn't go the way I thought it would but, I guess they never do. @12stepCheermom It has been a long time since I have inquired but, at one time HS received a sports budget for security, on site ambulance for football, grounds keeping, helmets, certain sport uniforms, goals, transportation to away games, etc. It used to be concessions and fundraisers were used to get newer uniforms, pay for camps, regional and state, etc. So none of our tax dollars are going to sport programs anymore? If so, I'm truly surprised. I was told the reason our cheerleaders don't always have transportation to and from away games is because, they fall under "activity" status (GA).
I really didn't intend this thread to take on the "are we a sport or not" avenue, again but, I guess I did a very poor job at beginning the topic. My original thoughts were "My neighbor just compared us to the WWE, do we resemble that?" Just as I'm getting the image of Hulk Hogan All Stars out of my head, you all give me the french maid Oui Oui All Stars   :D

Well I'm in NC where the legislature abhors public schools and those who work in them. Our schools are barely funded, athletics aren't funded at all. Multiple districts have already eliminated middle school athletics because they can't afford them and my travel budget for athletics will be exhausted by the end of September. Football gates are basically the only way we can pay for all of our athletic programs.

Alas, a rant for another day.

I still don't understand how the parents of these kids allowed that. What flavor of Kool-Aide did the owner give those parents??
I didn't understand either. It now in 2013 this would still be considered risque, how about this was in the 2007 season! Crazy. Their choreography was questionable as well.

Cheer Savannah is a great gym but I still can't get past the fact that they did this, haha

Maybe if the pretty, smart, talented girl wasn't so quick to rise to the offensive and tell everyone why her smarts made her smarter than everyone else, others may be more receptive. There's nothing I hate more than cheerleaders telling everyone why allstar is so much harder and more legitimate than other sports.

Wait I lied, there IS something I hate more… cheerleaders using injuries to prove why allstar is a sport. And uniforms you can't wear a sports bra under.

Omg this. This times a million. This is so perfect, thank you. I'm so excited about this post I want to frame it.

<snort> :D :p

Another thing we're in the same boat on. Sports here are sooooooo limited. Idp is playing volleyball now - she wants to play in high school but really, are they even gonna have volleyball by then? My take is if they're not going to educate 90% of the kids in Chicago they ought to at least let them play a sport! For more than half the kids here, athletics are their only hope. (Pretty pathetic school system when sports are the only way the kids can succeed!)

But yes, we'll rant another day.
