I have 2 new flyers with backgrounds in dance. They're both amazingly flexible but they're both having problems with the concept of finding center and stability. Does anyone have any tips in which to help them?

Tell them to think about turning in dance. It is all about finding and staying over center. They need to do in the air what they would go to hold a double or triple turn in dance.

I tell my girls to squeeze their stomach muscles. If they are squeezing them then they are stable. Also I remind them that the bases are doing their job holding them up there, so if they fall because they aren't tight or doing what they are suppose to be doing then that's on them. Just as most coaches have penalties for dropping their flyers, I make the flyer do v-ups if they come down from a stunt because they are loosey goosey or if they hurt a base because they weren't doing their job. Sounds mean but with my high school girls it works.

Tell them it's like doing a pirouette. There is an imaginary piece of string pulling them up. Just remind them to squeeze their butts and engage in their cores, and they need to know proper cheer technique because cheerleaders and dancers have very similar yet different technique

Thanks! We're still working on it but all of your advice has definitely helped

Tell them to go home and get a can of vegetables out of the cabinet and practice standing on it and pulling body positions while they watch tv! Practice makes perfect! And the more practice the better.
