I have felt there has been a real disregard for school in cheerleading. It would be interesting if someone did a poll on whether they have received a truancy notice received because of cheerleading.
yes, last season I received a letter from my youngest CP's principal but there was no other action taken. My oldest had to get permission to miss the amount of days she needed for competition travel. However, I feel this is more a gym issue than an EP issue, as the gyms can always decline a competition if there is already too much travel with the current schedule.

I've dealt with it personally. Up until this past season, we've managed to get by. But once you're over the school absence limit, you're over. CP's district at least offers detention or community service to credit missed school hours, before any legal action (court fines). It's still frowned upon by the school, and understandably so. It doesn't take too many days to set you back from the rest of the class.

Just a thought, and maybe it was already mentioned and I missed it, but GLCC Showdown is that same weekend in Schaumburg and that's usually a huge competition.

yes - i noticed we are already slated for GLCC.

So with all these events featuring a limited amount of teams in very different divisions (basically large senior will be competing against small coed and the like right?) how will all these teams be scored in a way we all think is fair and how many people will fly to watch these types of events year in and year out?

I doubt many will specifically fly for the heck of it like they do Worlds and NCA however it's a great opportunity for those parts of the country to see these well known teams especially for those kids who aren't on a Worlds team and who don't fly for the heck of it.

It's hard to answer hypothetically because that would never happen!

I wouldn't say never. It's obvious by the fact that these teams are accepting these invitations that they are making a rather loud statement that they are looking for a different format. I would not be surprised at all if this was a precursor to them all not attending Worlds at some point. (Especially since ever since the CL was announced many people saying "What would y'all do if the big teams didnt go to worlds?" are coaches, parents, and athletes from those teams. Makes me think the subject has at least been brought up with them.)

So do these things have multi year possibilities? Fundamentally no one else has figured out how to have a small senior compete against a large senior and the large senior score not have that 'large is more fun to watch' bias. How have these competitions solved it? Second I still don't know, outside of live streaming which I think we would ALL love to do, how many will actually attend in person? Worlds, NCA, and the Majors have amazing audiences because of all the people already there.

I am not against any of these types of events working, but I feel like they all skipped step 2.

1. Make awesome competition with the big names
2.
3. Profit!

Well it won't be anytime soon that's for sure! Until one of these comps becomes as prestigious as Worlds, these teams will keep going. Worlds didn't grow overnight. For now, these comps are just a Showcase of the best teams. There will be a winner declared but it's really not going to be an even playing field.

Does anyone know who is financing this? Airfare and hotel is paid for the 13 teams and there is $50K in prize money available. That's a LOT of money for a first year event

Has anyone mentioned that tickets for this competition will be sold concert style? aka you're paying specifically for your seat?

The draw for me is the ability to compete head to head with the best teams in our division month in and month out all leading up to where ever CSP decides to end our season. Direct competition with your competitor's can only make our division stronger and I'm definitely behind that!!!

Where are people seeing this? (the free hotel and airfare).

I may be alone when I say this...but I'm kind of already over these types of events. I understand they are trying to do something different and are trying to help evolve our sport...I get that. However, seeing the same teams invited over and over to the same events seems somewhat pointless to me. Yes I understand that all of them are insanely talented and all are the leading teams in our industry but it would be nice to see other teams with insane talent get invited too. NJSE Fab 5? ECE? Brandon? PCM? etc. I just sort of feel that other teams get left out of the mix. I'm not trying to offend anyone at all...This is just strictly my own honest opinion.
