Things that are dying or that I am missing:

I suppose I should state that most of the stuff that I miss fall under the performance aspect of all star cheer.

I like the glittery make-up, but it seems to be going away. I like inventive hair, although I don't know if I always buy into bigger is better! I like the team to look the same from head to toe - it's not that hard - make it happen!

I am disappointed that tumbling is becoming such a huge part of all star CHEER. If my daughter wanted to be a gymnast then she would have join a gymnastics gym when she was 4, not a cheer gym. Because tumbling has become such a huge part of the score sheet we have lost time in the routine for the fun, performance aspect elements such as the cheer, as was previously mentioned, and one of my favorites, the dance.

When we bring people who are not familiar with cheer to a competition with us and ask them what their favorite parts of the routines are, it is NEVER the tumbling. It is the stunting, pyramids and dance. It's the facials, the fun, and the impressiveness of it all.

I do love the athleticism of tumbling, stunting and cheer in general but I really enjoy the performance even more and I fear it is slipping away.

If I could shimmy this a thousand times I would!

Actually sync tumbling is a perfect way to identify if a team can tumble or not. One person is not a whole team. Athletes on a certain level team should have those level appropriate skills, therefore syncro tumbling can easily determine that.

My point is that judging is getting too detailed. Too detailed to the point that skills are being missed. A judge should be able to watch a tumbling sequence and tell whether or not a team can tumble. Synced tumbling isn't bad but it often handcuffs teams with more skills than they can perform.

Ill clarify to say this basically is dead already, but the "cheer" in Cheerleading. When we started eight years ago every team had a club cheer that showed up in some part of the routine, then it started getting voiced over during a skill section....now it's just gone.

We only just moved to CEA but I think about newbie cheerleaders that may read "cheer extreme, the best ever. Teal black and white now and forever" and have never heard a crowd shout that during the routine.

That happened with nearly every gym at this point.

This makes me so sad! The "cheer" portion was such a vital part of cheer! Our kids used to get so pumped up (in the crowd) and yell for their teammates. I am not a fan of sideline cheer (no offense) as I'm not a fan of chants, but for some reason those ones just made you feel happy and united with your whole gym. I miss it! We still used one last year but we looked foolish cause no one else did it, so this year I took them out :( we just have loud voice overs that sorta say it for us.

We keep outs for at least 3 years. So do the other gyms in our area. Maybe that's regional.

I feel like the majority of gyms keep their uniforms for three years. Its just the teams that everyone talk about all the time and actually want to see the uniforms for that gets new uniforms all the time, therefore making it seem like Everyone gets new uniforms every year. When in reality it is just the teams we happen to talk about all the time. I hope that makes sense.

We are usually on a three year cycle. This last one was 2 years, but they changed early because of the massive influx of new athletes the gym had this season, and for PR purposes- we went full tops, Leos actually. If we got new uniforms every year, I would be completely priced out of this sport. This summer was very hard financially for me with having to pay for two new uniforms, daytime babysitters, etc.

I know - this is our 8th season and it's bye bye glittery make-up of the past and also hello poof! I like the glitter but natural will look better - so many people outside the cheer world used to say many cps looked like clowns on stage :-( and wasn't needed. I am still scared about the big poof though!

Also - not sure about this but shirt and bow trading seems to be happening less and less...I did not really see it at Cheersport or The Summit or UCA...a little at NCA mostly with pins and I heard it wasn't as popular at Worlds this year either....

Our high school got a new varsity coach this year and at our game last night she had everyone wear poofs and high pony with bows forward. Before that everyone just had a high pony with backwards bows.

ETA: @alexamarysouza loved those bows those!

Bummer - I was actually hoping that the poof was going the way of the cheer in all-star. I just do not like them...at all. A little bit of height is attractive, but the ones that look like there is a mushroom sitting on the head, not so much.

I remember when my girls started All Star and I kept waiting for them to learn a cheer and then another mom said "Oh they don't do that" I said "Then how can they call it cheerleading with no cheer???" Still seems weird to me. I like what my kids do but the name cheerleading just doesn't seem to fit what it is.
