I'm curious to know how pep rallies work at other schools? Do you spend more time cheering(how many dances/cheers do you do?), playing games, or on the football players? Themes? How do you run pretty much everything? Oh and how do you keep the crowd involved? Decorations? Anything unique that works well at your pep rallies?

My CP's cheer squad does everything you listed at every pep rally. There is a theme for every pep rally depending on what school we are playing. They start with the fight song with the band, a chant, all-star type routine with cheer, dance, tumbling and stunts. Then the cheerleaders roll up the mat and the drill team performs their dance. Then there is some type of participation with the athletes, usually a skit or a contest. Then they end with the home song with all the athletes, cheerleaders and dance team in the middle of the floor in a big circular mass of people all crowded together and everyone in the gym standing up and throwing up the mascot symbol.

At my old high school the student council ran the pep rallies, we only had like two a year (one for homecoming, one for turnabout and maybe some extras if sports made it to state-football/basketball/volleyball). Basically the agenda went like this:
National Anthem (sung by choir)
Fight Song (played by band, dancers & cheer did the dance that went with it)
JV cheer performs competition routine (or sometimes just part of it)
Varsity cheer performs competition routine (or sometimes just part of it)
Dance team performs
Principal/Athletic Director/Sports coach (football for homecoming or basketball for turnabout) talks
Stupid class games (ex stupid races between fresh/soph/jr/senior)
Pie musical chairs things
Oh and somewhere in there they announce court. That's basically it.

Pep rallies were not a big thing at my school, mainly because everyone was required to go I think.

Ours are ran similarly. usually my cheerleaders get to do the school song, two crowd pleasers (30 second time out cheers), a cheer, and maybe a dance. Then the rest is games between the classes and introducing court or the team depending on when the assembly is held. We usually only have 2 a year which is fine really as our school isn't very active or involved. Usually during the class games if my cheerleaders aren't participating then I have them over with the rest of the school getting them to chant for the team they want to win or doing the wave or something to keep everyone involved, that's their job.

Do you have more than one squad like Freshman or JV? And if so, do they perform together with the Varsity girls?

I run a high school program with 60 kids. We have 5 rally's a year and they are a big deal. Our student government organizes them and our entire program does a new 2 1/2 minute routine for each one. They are usually themed with it lead off by our rally commissioner, principal speaks, class game, cheer performance, another class game, special announcements based on the reason for the rally (back to school dance, homecoming, spring fling, and end of year rally) our dance program performs, and special performances, announcement of classes leading by rally points and closes with our alma mater. We're a young school so 80% of the school gets dressed in class colors and really has a great time.

Our homecoming was a pretty big deal in our area. The football cheerleaders made posters for every fall athlete in the school. Including themselves :) and hung them up on the walls all over the school and decorated the halls with streamers and balloons. Usually we had a theme like one year it was jungle and we would decorate the lobby with all kinds of jungle stuff and hang the other teams' mascots from the ceiling or lock them in a cage it was pretty cool haha.
Then during the school day the entire school split up into two teams red and white and competed all sorts of different games against each other. The student council organized all the people into which events they would do the night before. We did all the sports like field hockey soccer basketball and then there are education games like math problems cooking and even rock band. There is a cheerleading one too it is hysterical watching people who've never cheered before attempt it.
Then that night each fall sports team gets on the floats they made and we have a parade through town then we go back to the school and each team preforms a skit that they made up then we have a bonfire to top off the night. Then the next day all the teams have a home game at different times so everyone can go to each one. It's soooo much fun!

Well, we lead the band, and cheer along. After everyone is in the gym, we do a cheer that involves each class one at a time. Then all sports are announced and they announce names and such. Then the students play games and relays, but only if they sign up. That's pretty much it.
