Hi! I'm currently on a senior 4 team as a backspot, but I don't feel like the position is right for me and I am interested in learning how to base. Should I go for it? I have main based 1 leg extensions and that's about it.. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks :)

Any good cheerleader should know how to do ALL positions! I have never understood these gyms that limits children to just back spotting, flying, etc.... I trained my little sister when she was young to be able to do it all. Now at her college it benefits her team and stunt groups because she is able to coach while cheering. Education is the key to success, I know you've heard that in school, well it always transfers to EVERYTHING!!

I have always based in allstar cheer, then my first year of highschool they put me as a backspot all year and i liked it a lot! And now this year i'm back to being a side base because everyone hit their growth spurts (finally) 3 of our flyers are taller than me! anyways, the transition is a little hard at first but you totally get used to it and it's nice to be versatile because then you can switch in and out of stunts without having to learn how to base/back. It makes it a lot easier for coaches to switch groups up. Basing is really all about comminicating with the other side and making sure youre both on time with tick tocks, cradles, full downs, baskets, etc. Another thing that really helps me; everyone probably has said this to you, but USE YOUR LEGS. trust me it's the best thing you can do. Muscling it up is the worst thing ever. Good luck :)
