I was in my schools guard last year. Most of the guard girls didn't mind the cheerleaders, and kinda just left each other alone, but there were always a select few guard girls who would make snarky, rude comments about the cheerleaders at every football game we went to. They would go on about how much harder they thought guard was compared to cheer, with no regard for the fact that i was also on an allstar cheer team and they were fully aware of it. they'd try to mimic all the sideline cheers in an extremely rude and mocking fashion. What really bothered me, however, is the fact that they even made fun of the tumbling... which no girl in colorguard could do. One of the cheerleaders threw a full on the GRASS, and the same few guard girls just sat there mocking them. I don't know how I managed to keep my mouth shut for the entire year but I'm so glad it's over

Wow! There are like two girls on color guard I really like, but I feel like the rest give them a bad name. When we're at games, they sit in the stands and glare at us until it makes us uncomfortable. But that's nothing like mocking someone's tumbling!

Again though, chances are some of the cheerleaders sat there talking about how terrible they thought guard was. Kids are really mean, and in high school you don't notice just how cruel you can be. I was never in guard but I know they put in a lot of time for their performances too, just like we do for cheer. Sure, we may not think that throwing flags into the air and flipping them is "cool" and maybe think it is stupid and unnecessary, but then remember all the people who think cheerleading stunting is unnecessary and stupid exist too.

Color guard is pretty much all the reject cheerleaders or the ones too scared to tryout at my school and because of that they put us down and call us sluts, idiots, etc. the cheerleaders and color guard girls at my school don't get along at all.

On Tumblr I've noticed this serious increase of Color Guard vs Cheerleading... it's gotten pretty intense.
Where the heck did all of this vicious hatred come from? haha
I don't understand all the hate.
Would anyone be so kind as to explain this to me? Has this been a long-term thing that I just haven't noticed?
I have heard someone say that color guard is wannabe cheerleader. I really don't know what I think about that, but I know at my school most of the girls on color guard have tried out for cheer before. I really think that the color guard are jealous of cheerleaders. I have a lot more to say but hey, if its not nice keep it to yourself.

At my school, instead of a dance team or color gaurd we have a pompon team.

:jawdrop: I've never seen anything like that! That was AMAZING!!!!!

I'm a dancer & choreographer, assistant coaching my little sister's JV cheer squad this year (so I'm still learning a lot about cheer!) Man, if they'd had something like "pompon" at my school, I would SO have done that. It's a great mix of dance & cheer!

Yeah, I did it for a year and it was so fun! I switched to cheer because of conflicts I had with the coaches, but the actual performances were awesome to do.

I love the idea of having cheer-type uniforms & using the poms. We had a typical dance team with the sparkly spandex outfits (that I was kinda self-conscious in - and I was 100lbs so I can only imagine how some of the bigger girls felt) and kicklines. Sometimes we could do a little hip hop for pep rallies.

Apparently it got a lot sleazier after I graduated coz I remember a bunch of parents complained to the school about their dance moves being "vulgar" & "inappropriate." Now the dance team wears flowy outfits & the moves are a mix of ballet-style & modern dance. It's really pretty when they perform on a stage or in the gym - and those girls are super talented - but it's kinda hard to pull off "fluid and elegant" on a football field during halftime.
