Old thread revival but ill play:

Over our 8 years in this there have been gyms that have stood out in both the positive and negative. I've got two positives from gyms I haven't seen here even if the experiences were a few years back.

1) jamfest Richmond (probably 2006 or 2007) when we were with gym #1. Even though we were in direct competition the parents and families from Dream Allstars (md) are people I've never forgotten. So nice, genuine and friendly. We absolutely loved hanging out with them. You know they were classy when I remember them specifically this much later. At the time I only had 1cp and she was a mini 2, she's a senior 5 now and I still remember Dream.

2) all levels Atlanta 2 years ago (the last all levels) with gym #2. For the first time in our gyms history we had the unthinkable happen...about 30 seconds in....the music died. That had never happened to our gym before and both my kids were on the floor. I'm not sure who started shouting the counts with the coaches louder, our own parent section or the families from Florida Top Dog. As a parent who had both kids on that floor it meant a lot that their entire program was trying to help our kids be successful just like we were. Awesome people and we've never forgotten. They shredded vocal chords and high fives just like we did when our team killed it, music or not.

Unfortunately, the bad experiences are equally etched in my brain. Just remember folks that people WILL remember you and the colors you're wearing after its over. You can decide HOW they remember you.

Top Dog was a local team back home and I knew a few girls from their teams and even though i'm not 'fond' of some of them for things they do outside the 'cheer world', over all the gym itself is very respectable and I know they have strong christian values! My gym always loved watching them even though their C4 was the main competition against our Sr 4 ;) But yes they are very classy indeed!

I had a great experience when I visited stingrays.... They were so nice to me and we talked for a bit while I was waiting for my class to start! They were hospitable and welcoming and even talked to me about King everyone there was super sweet!

I'm a high school principal. Thus I'm impossible to offend. I took nothing personally and I have nothing to be defensive about. If anything I get tired of people (not you, people in general given my job) not taking responsibility for the raising of their own kids and looking to scapegoat their behavior on someone else. I agree it takes a village, but ill always be the chief and the buck stops with me. I just wish that was a societal norm.

Preach it! As a high school teacher also I see it day in day out and I'm SICK of it!

While I agree that the parent is ultimately responsible for the behavior of each individual athlete, it is the gym owner who is responsible for the attitude and reputation of the gym as a whole. They hire the coaches and should be consistently assessing the climate of negativity within their organization. People will be drawn to gyms that conform to their moral standards. So while I would hope that a parent would address unsportsmanship behavior shown by their child, I suspect that, except for isolated circumstances, they are merely mimicking behaviors that the coach/gym owner demonstrates. If the gym owner/coach/parent tolerates it he/she endorses it. I suspect the owners of these gyms that keep coming up like Stingrays, Brandon, etc. have all had to address episodes of negativity within their gym and have done so successfully. They tolerate nothing less.

Right after posting the above I click on Twitter and see a tweet from Jam Brands sharing their organizational core values. I would post the graphic here, but don't know how. It is a perfect example of how an organization can set expectations for all. Bravo Jammy!

I know my with team, we are expected to clap for every team in every division and if we get second we always hug and congratulate the other teams.

I stayed at a hotel at Worlds with a family from Dream. Probably the nicest family possible and a great representation of their program.

So what do you think when a gym puts voice overs in their music that disses another gym? They don't specifically say the gyms name, but everyone knows who they are talking about. Do you think allstar fair in love and war, or do you think it's hitting below the belt and being ugly to the kids?

Depends on what is said. Most of the time I go with it being all in fun. Other sports talk smack so not surprised to see it in cheer.

Sometimes I think gyms spend way to much time worrying about what other programs are doing and not enough time on their own program. Just in general, not directed at any one person. Off to not listen to Shooting Stars, Panthers or Orange's music to see if I can find any voice over's against SE.
