Has anyone experienced a college recruiter talking to young kids and saying they are going to keep in touch through the years? FYI - this is actually a serious question as I don't know much about it. Also, I thought Cheerleading was at the bottom of scholarship pool - again would be interested in people's perspective here. My CP recently has been expressing interest in cheering in college.
I heard they really cannot recruit you, once you get into the school you "may" get a little $$, but there is really not alot out there for scholarships.

You all are confirming what I thought. I guess the display was mostly for the show. Thanks for the heads up on college - I think she just wants to make a squad somewhere. As far as scholarships - we are focused on achedemic.

I figured it was all for the show as well. There was massive eye rolling going on from the viewing couch in my house during those scenes.

Did this happen in the show or did you see this in person? Just wondering since have not watched either episode of this season.

Yes - it was in the show as part of the Cheerleading Magazine stunt clinic - which I know many gyms had this summer including ours. The show implied the recruiter talked to everyone on Youth Silver except a few girls. This just seemed interesting to me and strange to target so many young kids. Then the parent commentary about now getting scholarships was fun...although the parent reaction is very typical around youth sports. If I had a dollar for every parent in softball or volleyball that said their 8 or 10YO is doing this to get a college scholarship - I could fund my daughter's upcoming college bill.

I hate to admit I am watching the show but I do like the cheer part with the kids. I hate the parent stuff - and it is not even entertaining - so I fast forward thru most of it. My daugther wants to watch the US Finals episode since she went to US Finals.

I thought that part of the show was just silly.. I mean, my CP tells me she wants to be a world champion and all that, but she's EIGHT!! I cannot truly predict whether she will still be doing this ten years from now when she applies to colleges. And how on earth does anyone know that these kids will be throwing college skills then? God forbid they get injured, block, or just don't want to tumble/fly that level in the long run? The whole concept just seems ridiculous to me.

I personally like the show. I think it is great they have show on for lower level teams. It shows people that every allstar cheerleader has to start somewhere.

I'm sorry I didn't find it. What is this in reference to?

I believe it was the day 1/day 2 scoring for the "Dallas" competition that they competed at and refer to as "Dallas" over and over in that episode and subsequent episodes (not to be confused with the "Dallas" competition we all know and love;))

Because CP kept saying when watching that episode that is NOT Dallas! I said I think they meant a different comp that is in Dallas, not "Dallas".

Oh, I was just curious. I immediately thought of NCA All Star Nationals which I think most people know is a 70/30 comp, but I don't know about any other Dallas comps.

@KDCheerMom and referencing the college recruiter discussion-

My daughter is in her second year of college and I've seen a lot of variations, but the only true college entity I know that properly recruits is NCATA programs. They are the only programs that are true varsity sports at their schools so they have to follow NCAA recruiting rules.

There are a few recruiting "agencies" that help kids locate schools with scholarships and promote tryout videos for the kids. The CheerLeadingAgency is the only one I know well.

I didn't watch it, but I would guess anyone talking to young kids about college would be one of these agencies or other professional trying to work leads for the future. If it's not that I can only imagine it being a college coach offering friendly advice for the sake of the show.

Bottom line is I don't know of any traditional college teams that do ANY type of broad recruiting efforts as described, especially at a young age.

Hope this helps the curious a little
