kind of got to disagree here. maybe cheerleaders talk crap, but hopefully not in their music or routines.
I always like the confident, not cocky approach. there is a difference....

I was referring to the post I quoted which was about talking crap. Not the music part.

Ok cool. So next time someone at or gym gets accused of talking smack, we can say Oh everybody does it so that makes it ok. Then I'll refer then to this thread.

I don't necessarily think there are "classy" gyms. Before I get attacked, I know there are gym owners, coaches and kids/parents who represent themselves and their gym well and with respect. I also know there are gym owners, coaches and kids/parents who don't represent their organizations the way I agree with. These can all exist in the same organization. I tend not to paint entire organizations with the same brush.

Kids are kids and there is going to be things said. A few parents too. That's a given. But I think it's trashy when a gym refers to another gym in voice overs. And I also think they should get deductions for it. Don't we as a whole want this sport represented a level above others?? Again, JMO

Honestly, if I had a a big, friendly rivalry I would love them saying something about us in their music. I would think it was funny, and I would hope I could have some little sassy remark in my music. It's not like voiceovers say, "I hate you team XYZ. You all are fat, ugly, and make terrible cheerleaders". It's just a funny, sassy shout out in good fun.

I think a deduction would be a bit excessive, especially how debatable it would be since digs at other teams in music are never blunt and tend to be open to interpretation.
I think it's a little distasteful to outright refer to another gym in your music, but I also think people assume a team's music is about someone in particular a lot more frequently than it is. Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard a mix that I thought directly put down another team or program.

i find them all funny. 1 clearly you're thought of as tough enough competition to be referred to, and 2 why would you get directly and personally offended if someone made a remark about your team of 20+ other members?.. no one is directly offending you, your life or personality. i think people take cheer too seriously some times..

only one i can think of top guns music that said "not even bullets can stop me now", but it was just a song. i highly doubt people on coed took that to heart!

The 2010 TG mix was almost entirely directed at Cali (and maybe this makes me a bad person) but its still my all time favorite mix. But I also seem to remember a lot of discussion over a Georgia (or was it trinity) mix (you see how closely I pay attention to this stuff) last year that got people riled up.

I think the difference is between vaguely referring to a program versus directly calling them out. I think that's where people get sideways.

I just think (in general) its bad karma. Nothing to do with "classy" gyms. I don't know how many times I've seen a team with something like that in their music that just opens you up for ALL kinds of commentary if it doesn't hit.

There was one at CHEERSPORT last year that bragged about having the best tumblers....right when they busted at the same time. And although I think it was awesome when it hit. That GA VoiceOver from a few years ago 3,6,9,12 (the dirty dozen) I cannot possibly be the only person sarcastic enough to have thought..."nope, 10 1/2!" If it missed.

So I'd steer clear of that for karma's sake over maintaining a classy image
