I noticed The Revolution is giving $20,000 to the first place teams and $5000 to 2nd. I'm sure other comps like this will do something similar. If your CP was on a team that won money, would you feel the kids deserved the money divided among them or should the gym owners get to pocket it? Assuming your team already had paid bid to Worlds....... I'm sure it would really help the parents with comp fees, travels fees, etc.

i would imagine they use the money to cover extra worlds cost (travel, hotel, etc.), if they already had a bid before hand. i think the revolution competition is toward the end of the season, so i doubt it would be much help toward going to other comps after that, but im not sure.

i've heard of numerous gyms using prize money as scholarships for graduating seniors at the end of the season.

My team has been one of the ones selected for the Revolution... the coaches already told us that if we won, the money would go to new uniforms, traveling fees, accommodations, etc.

That's very nice.

My team won $10,000 at the American Grand in Vegas, and the money was used for new equipment at the gym and making general gym improvements that would benefit everyone. I think it's a good option, as it helps the kids but also benefits the gym and future growth.

I would not expect to personally benefit. My CP is representing the gym that was chosen to attend the event. The EP didn't pick up the phone and call her and ask her to compete. Many of the athletes that are on teams that were selected for these types of competitions were not even on the team that was worthy of the selection (if that makes any sense). My feeling is that it is the gym's money to do what they choose, and the only use of funds I would side-eye is a staff-wide trip to the Caribbean;)

With very limited exceptions, any prize money generally goes towards something for the whole program (new equipment usually). We don't want to add winning individual prize money to the drama of athlete placement on teams. ("I only want my daughter to be on Team X because they will win me more money.")

In year's past (11 or 12 years ago) I remember our program winning grand champion at Athletic in Winston and the prize was $10,000 or something and that's how she bought the tumble track we still use til this day. I wouldn't be at all opposed to Revolution prize money going for something in the gym that all the athletes could benefit from (equipement, etc) or some being used for equipment needed and possibly some filtering down to a team without a paid bid to try and offset some of their expenses. At Myrtle Beach when SE was announced as the $500 high score winner they voted to give that $$$ to Lady Elite who was fundraising for worlds almost right up to the week they left. Not sure what they $$ went for when SSX ended up being the high score winner.

Now it wasn't $20,000 but cp's team won a $3,000 "jackpot" prize at Cheer America a couple years ago. The money went to a lock-in for the team and for improvements to the South gym in Arlington.
I would never expect to personally benefit from cp's winnings but would like to see them used for gym equipment, improvements, ect.

Well, for The Revolution they can use it to pay for parking at McCormick Place...

I totally agree with this. Even though I don't like "stay to play" giving reward rooms to coaches based on how many rooms parents pay for, this is totally different to me. You win as a team, the money goes to the "team" (the entity, so to speak) - not individuals. I like to see this money go back into the program in some way. Like you said, the athletes are representing the program, not themselves.

For any comp when a coach blocks off rooms, most hotels do throw a free one in.
