cea has a contract with varsity, right? because when i think of which gyms would be the first to boycott, CSP comes to mind. with every new "not gk" they reveal i get more and more confused why she gives them so much business.
I'm not entirely sure. GK does not do contracts so not sure how that works.

I actually don't think it should be completely stripped down as some people do, just to be sure, but in some cases I think scaling it back would make the cheerleading for sure have a better image as a legit sport in the vein of gymnastics and figure skating, as opposed to being viewed as an ugly red headed stepchild of these sports, which sadly is sometimes the case. Competitive cheerleading is ideally about looking feminine and charming and being a legit, determined athlete and the one sport where these two are not mutually exclusive. I know that some people want it to be completely stripped down to the point where they dress like soccer players or something, but I always found that to be nonsensical.

What I was initially saying was what critics of the sport had said. I think some striping down could be good but not too much. At the very least, it should not be treated like a beauty pageant the way I've heard it sometimes described. Especially for girls aged 13 and younger. I also think there should be a reward factor too; high school girls who have proven that they are mature enough to have influence in how they dress and what their routines are like should also be able to have some sort of influence in their routines and their uniforms. Many people are going to passionately disagree with me on this last part, but I am a firm believer in individualism, individual rights and responsibilities. And I think if competitive cheer would embrace these principles, it would gain exponentially more respect among the masses.

Part of the reason my cp loves this sport is because she gets to be super girly and wear the makeup and fix her hair up and put on the sparkly uniform. I disagree with what your saying about only high school girls being allowed to have the prettiness and and to be able to influence routines and such I think that this being a team sport that has different levels everyone needs to look very similar and that in my opinion individual rights and responsibilities need to be put aside to focus on the team. Just a question for you why do we as people who love our sport need the respect of others outside our sport?

They don't, but I read and have in the past heard cheerleaders and coaches consistently express how they want to have it. I think it naturally follows from the fact that they condition themselves to conform to judges' arbitrary standards to begin with and it makes them instinctively preoccupied with what others think. But you are right they should not consider it a priority in theory.

i wonder if there are any people in cheerleading who feel that cheerleading uniforms need to be stripped down entirely. And that the short skirts should be replaced by shorts, the halter tops should be gone and the makeup that is worn should be gone and that it should be stripped down and should simply be about being athletic and not overly pretty. Are there people who feel that way in cheerleading or do they think that is just incessant complaining and noise when people say this.

I've know of a coach who specifically dislikes bows and after seeing her teams compete you could guess that she dislikes makeup as well. Her athletes are dressed in capris, minimum natural makeup and no bow.
I don't think that it affect the teams in any way, since they usually do really well at competitions. But I have to admit that it is very boring. What seperates us from other sports (according to me) is the opportunity to wear a uniform unlike any other.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if cheerleading uniforms moved towards the Acro and Tumbling uniform style or to a more simpler/athletic style. I like most of the current uniforms, hair, makeup, etc. but I think some gyms/teams definitely need to take it down a notch so I wouldn't mind if it was moved towards a more simple and athletic style.

I know the Allstar Cheer is not perfect, but I think folks are trying too hard to make it into gymnastics and soccer. I love the hair, the makeup and the uniforms. It's a performance sport! It's done on a stage! There is a degree of theatrics involved, so some flash is required! I think it's time that we accepted and embraced OUR sport as a sport, REGARDLESS of how we are considered by anyone else! If we can't love the unique idiosyncrasies of Allstar cheer, then no one will.

Besides, who said that in order to be "real" athletes you have to look like a bunch of plain Janes? Ask Venus and Serena!
