What certification should coaches have at the High School level? All Star? Rec Cheer? I am in the process registering for some courses, and wonder what certifications I really NEED as opposed to those that would just be a bonus. Thanks! :)

AACCA.org for school and rec. USASF.net for All Star.

Not sure that any are needed I the sense of required. Which is sad by itself

But I would recommend all high school coaches have AACCA safety certification and USASF technique certification of they want to be serious about their craft.

AACCA doesn't offer courses in my state (Utah) but they said they could Skype with me. I am also considering NFHS courses in safety, etc.

I was just wondering if each state had a mandatory certification required for Cheer coaching. Kinda sad if it doesn't. The coach at our local high school is an absolute joke-- but they didn't hire me, who has coached for years, because I am not the right religion. The other gal , who is a dance teacher, was a "better fit." Ha ha. I am a little bitter- but just going to apply at other high schools and make their program FIERCE! :)

Last time I checked the AACCA course was online. Some states have mandatory courses, for example TN requires AACCA.

Yeah, I just emailed them today and they said they don't offer online courses. Unfortunately. Because that would be the best.

Here is the link to the online course:

Cheer safety course goes online

You might want to email them back and let them know that they actually do offer online courses. They are run through NFHS. :)

Awesome! Thank you! I think that the gal I was communicating with was referring to their four core classes for certification, however. This looks like it is just the safety course. I wish they were all online, but I will take what I can get! Ha ha Thanks for the link! :)

I am AACCA safety certified because I was supposed to be helping our high school coach and I figured that one of us should be. I did the online course. Now, I need a first aid/sports injury course.

I am correctly reading that the state of Tennessee requires AACCA safety certification for high school cheer coaches? Does it matter if they aren't coaches, but rather are called sponsors?

I don't know.

I don't know.
I am wondering if our school is using "sponsors" to bypass the requirement.

One coach is telling the girls , including my cp, to do illegal moves-basket tosses in the basketball gym and telling them "just do a little one. "

I said it was illegal and she closed the practices to parents.
