I've been back-spotting for about a year, and last season(a different coach) I never had/been called out for not "staying in." I feel like i'm completely under the stunt, and I just don't understand the concept of it. Can somebody please explain this to me?!

Just stay close touching your bases! I've always been taught that in one legged stunts both bases should be touching and I (the backspot) should be touching them. So all bodies are in contact with each other, it just gives the stunt a stronger foundation. In two legged stunts you should be close, but not to where you're "underneath" the stunt. I've been penalized for that before lol hope this helps!

Stay close to your bases! I'm either shoulder to shoulder with my bases in two legged stunts, or right up against them in one legged stunts! The closer you are to the bases, the more control you have over the stunt and the easier it will be for you. It can take some getting used to and seem scary at first, especially if the flyer falls and it looks like she's going to squash you, but it gets easier!
