High School Convincing Parents To Get Their Kids Enrolled In Tumbling Classes

While I don't disagree with you, this is not all-star cheer but school, and there are many schools where parents just don't have those resources. It's very hard to fundraise when everyone in your community is in the same boat. I really like how @cheer coach k (see above post) handled the situation and was able to find a coach to come to them at a much more affordable cost for her cheerleaders.

I know some parents don't have the resources, but like I said we were all given the cost 3 months before tryouts and were given another month after they made the team to pay the summer program $. If a girl really wanted to do it and her family couldn't afford it, she could do odd jobs, babysit, whatever. I know if my daughter was told that we couldn't afford it, she would do anything to make the money to pay. Cheer Coach K got an instructor to come to the school for $5 per girl (don't know whether or not it is per hour). But, if you break down our monthly cost 2 hours per week at $40 per month that comes out to $5 an hour and even less when there happens to be 5 weeks in the month. The All Star gym is less than 1/2 a mile from the High School so the girls either carpool or walk in a group. I am almost positive that if a girl couldn't afford the fees for the gym and/or the summer program that she wouldn't be turned away. I know it isn't All Star cheer, but the kids saw the skills other schools were doing and in order to be competitive, the tumbling/stunting had to be taken to the next level. But yes, I understand where you are coming from.

Also, I think high school coaches need to learn how to teach tumbling skills and/or hire an assistant coach who is a certified tumbling instructor.
That would be a great idea. I don't know about your school, but at my CP's High School cheer is considered a recreational activity, not a sport therefore the budget is very very very limited and the coaches get paid basically nothing as it is, so I don't see a certified tumbling instructor coming in to coach/teach tumbling for the peanuts they would be paid.

We don't even have coaches. We have sponsors. They can't be bothered to take the AACCA safety course or follow NFHS rules. Parents can't really complain to our principal because she wants to cut cheer. :banghead:

In an ideal world, we would all have access to adequate gyms and adequate coaches.

So are they sideline then only? I hope that they don't stunt or tumble.

We don't have anyone on our high school squad who tumbles. We have four on junior high who do though. They stunt though. It is scary at times. They all do camp at a gym with an actual real coach.
