High School Varsity And Jv Tension

There was an issue when my oldest was a freshman on varsity (one of 3) and the sophomore and junior girls on JV tried to claim their uniforms before them, basically shoving them to the back of the line. The varsity coach put them in their place and was very clear on varsity freshman cheerleaders having priority over JV upperclassmen.

In general if the coaches handle things the right way from the start, and lead by example, there shouldn't be any issues.

There is on my squad. My coach seems to spend more time on us varsity and tells the JV to work on cheers. They barely have a prep and the last time they popped off went horrible.

There is absolutely no tension at my CP's school between any of the squads (Varsity, JV or Freshman). Varsity has seniority (only juniors and seniors can make the squad, and within the squad, seniors have seniority). Sophomores and juniors can make JV but there has only been one year where there were juniors on JV. Because only upper classman can make Varsity, that keeps the peace between the squads. I know that smaller schools don't have the luxury of having 3 squads but it makes the relationships between them so much better.

We don't have tension because we are such a small school that we only have Varsity. We do have a junior high squad at our little pre-K through 12 school. The squads are completely separate.

We did have problems with the upperclassmen being mean, harassing, and bullying the freshman last year. This year has been better because the captain didn't like it last year and put a stop to it.

Yup! JV always complaining they dont get to do they "Varsity Stuff". They are Varsity for a reason, you are JV for a reason. You move your way up. Our JV program is relatively new too, so we also have the whole aspect of Varsity looking "down" upon JV in some ways. Varsity should support JV as they are the future. It's very irritating, we try bonding and everything but there just seems to be such a gap.

Its all in the coaching. i personally like working with my J.V more because theyre the future of my cheer team if i develop well behaved all around good cheerleaders (academically/athletically) i will not have any problems with my Varsity

My freshman, sophomore, and junior year we had a JV squad and varsity squad and everything went well. Everyone knew their place. Upperclassmen have seniority and underclassmen kept their mouth's shut until they were older (sounds mean, but it worked for us). My senior year, our numbers dropped and now there is only 1 squad. The upperclassmen have a really hard time letting the freshmen wear THEIR varsity uniforms. The underclassmen take the fact that they are technically on varsity as an ok to try walking all over the upperclassmen ( note that most of our freshmen are brand new cheerleaders). Having 1 joined squad is not good for us. It's creating animosity among the girls and there are a lot of fights because of it.

We've had a JV and varsity for a couple years now, but in the past teams were separated by grade. (Freshman and sophomores on JV, juniors, seniors, and skilled lowerclassmen on varsity) This year we actually had cuts for the varsity team, and that resulted in some girls being put on JV who were once on varsity. Not sure if this will result in any tension since this season just started but I hope not. I love our JV team because I know that helping them will leave a longer legacy than just helping myself.
