Okay so I am a new flyer this year. I am in college and this is only my second season cheering for college, I cheere. In junior high and when I was little.. I was a dancer my entire life, my university doesn't have a dance team. So I decided to try cheer again. I have preps down easy, even though my knees hyperextend, but I just lift my toes to the top of my shoes and that doesn't let me toe. I also have split lifts and extensions. I have tried cradles and for some reason I cannot stop freaking my self out. I go up no problem, but when I start feeling the drop is when I freak out. Does anyone else have this problem, any advice?

You know on a roller coaster, or on a plane when there's turbulence and the unexpected drops make your stomach move? Cradles and baskets feel like that if you're not prepared. If you tense your abs really tight your stomach won't drop and make you feel that panic of sudden gravity. The added bonus is that you'll be concentrating so hard on tensing that it will be over before you know it.

To add to this, let your bases do a few dips at first but no toss. It will help you prepare for the cradle by focusing on those muscles @BowCat mentioned but without the toss taking you by surprise.

Thank you! I do trust my bases, I just don't trust myself. I know that sounds bad, I am always afraid that I will mess up. I just tried a prep into a front tuck and that wasn't scary. Idk why cradling does so much. I almost had it a couple times. I just didn't straighten both my legs on the way down. The last time I had one leg straight.
One thing, I am a dancer so I am used to being in control of everything, not having to rely on others. I will get it though.
