I agree and I'm sure your correct. They want more international teams, but if that's the case bids should only go to the Canadian teams or they should be the only ones allowed to defer at Sea2Sky. I don't understand why ATC Bellevue isn't a bid competition for Summit it is for Worlds.

This was just posted under the sea to sky web site... so I guess more deferred Summit bids.

Exciting News Release:
SEA TO SKY 2014 will be awarding some of the top placing L1 to L4 Teams with a bid to compete at THE SUMMIT at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando FL. ONE team will be awarded the highly coveted PAID BID. This team will be selected to attend this event with registration fees, accommodations and Disney passes - ALL paid for. Additionally, THREE teams will be awarded AT LARGE BIDS. All Bids may be used for May 1-3 2014 or a team can choose to defer their attendance for the 2015 year.
Not sure why this is being allowed again. Last season I understood it was because The Summit was new, this comp was late in the season and did not give teams enough time to plan travel.
This year though teams who have this on their schedule have plenty of time to plan ahead with fundraising so the cost of attending The Summit should really not be a factor. Additionally, I find it strange that they are allowing Summit bids to be deferred to 2015 but not Worlds bids, and there is even less time between this comp and Worlds than between this comp and The Summit.

Does the EP even give some kind of explanation as to why it is possible to defer bids (other than the announcement posted on page 4) ?

The Summit is a Varisty event and all the events that offer bids are all under the Varsity umbrella of EP's. ATC is not a varsity company and I don't ever really forsee them selling out. Or at least not anytime soon.. They do pretty well for themselves without the backing of the giant corporation. It'll be interesting to see how big Meydenbauer is this year though now that Canadian teams can't get bids in the US (or is that only the other way around, US can't get bids at S2S?)

I know they aren't Varsity and they won't sell out its a strong company. I just don't get why Varsity gave bids for Summit for the ATC Sea2Sky comp and not ATC Bellevue. REALLY!!! Wow Ice Queens got the paid last year at ATC Bellevue.

ATC doesn't own Sea 2 Sky. One of the owners of ATC has strong ties to it and may own some of it, but S2S is not an ATC event.

Ice Queens didn't get a bid in Bellevue. They were not eligible for one, but may have been the highest scoring team.

That's right I think it was PacWest sorry I knew it was a US comp.

Oh ok I thought that was a ATC event just under a different name because it's Canada.

I figured it was PacWest, but wasn't sure if Ice Queens or their IOC5 team (is it Black Ice?) got a bid their. PacWest and S2S had an agreement with the USASF to allow teams to cross the border and receive bids. That was made prior to ATC having bids and got a lot more publicity this year with a Canadian team getting a paid bid in the US. I don't know if that agreement will continue in the future, be amended to include ATC, or end.

ATC works primarily as ATC Canada in Canada. They also work with another EP, but I can't think of the name right now.

Actually Worlds bids can be deferred at this competition. (and it appears that US teams can also qualify for these bids). I agree with you that teams that have this on their schedule have plenty of time to plan ahead with fundraising, I'm not a fan of deferring either The Summit Bids or Worlds Bids.

Per SEA TO SKY website:
IASF Worlds Bids - SEA TO SKY 2014 will be awarding up to 9 Bids to the top level 5 and 6 Teams. Up to 3 PARTIAL PAID BIDS totaling $3000 and 6 AT LARGE BIDS will be awarded for the 2014 World Championships. These bids may be deferred to the 2015 year.
*NOTE*
There is a minimum number of teams that you must have in attendance at Sea to Sky to qualify
for a BID. BC Teams must bring 50% of their competitive program to qualify for any type of BIDS. Teams
from Washington and Alberta must have 3 Teams in attendance and Teams from Portland, Idaho, Saskatchewan or Winnipeg (or further away) require 2 Teams in attendance to qualify for a BID.

So strange - I looked at the website this morning and it seemed the deferred bids were only for The Summit, nothing for Worlds.

Thank you - my bad. My pre-coffee brain did not translate "IASF" into "Worlds Bid". I need finish the entire cup before commenting next time at 5AM :D.

Oh I understand. ;) I think even with a whole pot of coffee this deferring bids thing wouldn't make sense.

According to the Varsity website list of competitions that offer bids there are 2 other comps that same weekend giving bids, and neither of them are giving the option to defer the bid.....

Hmm.......not fair!!!! I think nothing should be deferred if there are teams that will take it and a prepared to go this season. I think the Paid bid should not be given a deferral option at least.
