Oh they get to wear a bow to comps. I was just going to make each a different bow. However last night we went full out and they are now too tired to talk. Lol

Most miserable week ever! And we are only exhibiting at the comp! I hope that you are dealing with the pressure better than I am -lol! Routine has been running over, so we kept cutting bits and pieces out (instead of the logical step of pulling an eight count). I am not even sure what the final cuts are ...so I am positive that my Mites don't either.

Probably too late for you to do now, but when I had to do cheer and music combination routines (thank goodness all music now lol) I would always, always put the music together like this: (short bit of) music, blank space for cheer, music. Then you only have to press play once and you ALWAYS end up with the correct amount of time. If the cheer takes too long... it will run into the music and usually the first eight count of the second piece music was some sort of transition so it wouldn't matter.

In your current situation, I would definitely take out an 8 count. Preferably the last 8 count, if possible, lol. Make it easy!

That is a really good idea. I hate that we have to hit play twice especially since we are so close on time. I got outvoted on what to pull- hopefully it will work.and the girls won't be too lost tomorrow. Thank goodness we have another week of practice before the big comp

If your routine is already set as music-cheer-music, put it together into one (correctly timed) track! Just do it, bring it to practice and say hey, why don't we try this? Lol I'm such a troublemaker. But it will likely work.

Talking and giggling and goofing off? Oh, do I know all about that! LOL A stern reminder of, "If you aren't interested in practicing, we could go call Mom to pick you up" can help, but I don't use it too often so that it doesn't lose its effectiveness. I also do the stand around silently and look grumpy until they notice thing. I have a whistle that I use sometimes. Or I turn off the lights on them and have them lie down for a 100 count to get them back under control.

With my competition kids I just ask them if they think their biggest rivals do that at practice, or if that trophy is all that important to them.

Calling out the girls who are talking usually works. I'll have them come to the front and preform the skill that they were talking through. Then I correct their mistakes and make them do it over and over in front of everybody until they get it perfect. The embarrassment usually shames them into stopping their chatter.

I have 10 high school girls who are guilty of this. I'm glad they are so close that they talk to each other about everything, but they need to learn to do it outside of practice. I tried conditioning, yelling, etc. but the only thing that seems to work is I sit down right where I am, don't say a word, and watch to see how long it takes them to stop talking. That's how long we stay after practice. I also learned to take away their cell phones at the beginning of practice and they only get them back at the end. If their parent needs to get ahold of them then they can call or text me, otherwise it just creates issues and bad attitudes. Good luck!

That is exactly what I do, I do not sound intimidating at all when I yell, so I simply step back sit down, and start going through my cheer stuff. Once one girls sees me do that, they quickly quiet each other down and they all get silent. I told them if they are going to waste my time during practice, they will be staying after to make it up after. They have become a lot better, and this way I do not have to yell at anyone.

I either start counting and whenever they are all silent, I stop and whatever number I get to is how many jumping jacks or push ups they owe me. Or I say "I will start counting when you show me you are ready to do this (stunt, jump section, basket, ect)". Or I use the clapping method, where I'll clap once, and they clap once, then I'll clap two times, and they clap two times, ect until all of the team is clapping and silent. Also, if you coach a mini or a young youth team, I use "catch your bubble" a lot and they immediately "catch their bubble" and puff out their cheeks. I use a lot of techniques from when I did a teaching internship with a preschool and I find them to be very effective!

my team is guilty of talking a lot! I have noticed that or coaches either randomly start playing our music, walk away, make us run, threaten to cancel practice, or just sit there and watch us talk.

What I tried in practice once was make them do the same thing over and over if I hear any talking. Say we're working on motions and I hear talking during it, I would have them hold that motion until I hear complete silence, and if they talk they do 10 pushups, etc. Or if its constant I usually yell because I have a low patience with my team now. Jumps are always good. Just keep counting 8 counts while they jump, for ya know...5 minutes or however long you feel.
