We have an Open Coed 6. Every single one of them pays. The guys cost is less than the girls, and they all pay it willingly. We don't have the ability to have people cheer for free because we want their skill set. If someone suggested it I'd show them the door pretty quick.

Granted we aren't considering Worlds at all. But that doesn't mean we don't have the skill set (though we admittedly lack level appropriate tumbling). We're just a little more "beer league".

There's also ZERO level 5 teams in Manitoba. So level 6 it is

Open is a massive thriving division here in Australia, we actually offer open to all levels. This is largely due to not having any kind of significant college program (we do not have college sports)

So open is really no different to any other age group here, they pay the same, attendance is the same. Open level 1 is quite popular as older athletes who have never done cheer are not deterred in anyway for starting late.
I do not believe this model would work in the US

My team only pays tuition if you are still in high school. Adults only pay comp and travel fees (also choreo and music fees). Seems to work out pretty well.

In our gym we have an open all girl 6 team that is a worlds team...so no I wouldn't care about paying. I'm sure though if you didn't have to pay a lot more people would be more willing to do it. Plus if they give a whole team free something someone else could complain that so and so deserves something free too.
If you make it to a level 6 team, you have paid your fair share of cheer tuition and related expenses. At that point that's the least the gym can do!

What if they are brand new to the sport or coming from a different gym or have only ever done hs/college cheer? Just playing devil's advocate.

I am on an open 6 team and we made tuition absolutely the bare minimum to keep the lights on and the coaches paid. We are only attending 2-3 competitions (depending on how many people commit to the team) and then are getting cheap/basic uniforms. It isn't free but it is wayyyyyy cheaper than levels 1-5 regardless of mini vs. senior.
