All-Star Someone Check Maddie's Birth Certificate...

Holy crap!! Is that Lee Majors aka the Six Million Dollar Man announcing the team in the very beginning???? Colonel Steve Austin...a man barely alive....we can rebuild him....

OT Speech Topic: Are Childhood Sports Too Competitive?

You may want to also talk about how kid's childhoods have changed over the years. I remember being a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's and we got our exercise from running around the neighborhood playing kickball, SPUD, tag, cops & robbers, flashlight tag and capture the flag. Plus we rode our...

No real details just yet, but saw the announcement on Ballet West's FB page. Can't wait!!!!!!

All-Star Help/advice: Hard Decision To Make!

Take the job. In the grand scheme of things, it is just cheer--an after-school extra-curricular activity (just like any other sport or activity). The girls may love it, but a new job is your livelihood. The job is what pays the bills. Period. The cheer team will make adjustments and be just fine.

OT Breaking Pointe-ballet West Reality Show

I have to say Katie was my favorite "character". She is so cute and I felt so bad that she did not get her contract renewed. She reminds me a lot of Jennifer Love Hewitt from the Party of Five days!!! Allison got on my nerves and whined and complained way too much. I don't know what Rex saw in...

OT Breaking Pointe-ballet West Reality Show

I figured I would start a new thread on this instead of hijacking the Dance Moms 2.5 thread!!! I loved this show and thought it was one of the better dance shows. I can totally relate to this show since my daughter switched from cheer/gymnastics to now ballet/dance full time. I loved the last...

All-Star "some Girls Just Can't Fly"

I would have her take some ballet lessons and possibly take her to some open gyms at gymnastics gyms and have her get up on the beam and practice walking back and forth and just balancing on it. I believe that she can be trained to be a good flyer. It just will take a lot of practice. Good luck!!!

    All-Star Best Scorpion

My daughter doesn't cheer anymore (now does dance), and she hasn't lost much flexibility. I was surprised that she could still do this!

    All-Star Gym Merges

They could call themselves the "Red Herrings" Red--for Crimson Heat and Herrings--for Marlins!!! Or they should at least name one of their level 5 teams the Red Herrings!!! I just looked on wikipedia and the term "red herring" is also known as a smoke screen!!! LOVE it!!

All-Star Usasf Uniform Rules Vs Usag

My daughter did about 3 years of competitive gymnastics after cheer and I must say that some of the rules are rather strict. For instance, the hair. Everytime your hair falls across your face or you brush your hair away from your face it is a deduction. There was a girl on another team that had...

    All-Star Usasf Major Changes

I totally agree that cheerleaders and gymnasts should be trained similarly. And I agree that the usual 6 hrs (2 practices a week) are simple not enough for what these cheerleaders do. In a way, cheerleaders do much more than gymnasts because so much is packed into a 2:30 min routine. There...

    All-Star Usasf Major Changes

Just wanted to add that gymnastics involves 4 events (vault, bars, beam and floor) and strong tumbling will not help you on beam and bars where balance and upper arm strength are used. And that darn Level 5 kip on bars is so darn tricky!!! I also think that with having the 4 events in...

    All-Star Then And Now

I couldn't edit my original post, so I am adding a current pic of Now (Age 12, almost 13): Still does some stretching for dance :).

All-Star Help Me - Black Cheer Shoes?!

Unique All Stars in Columbia Md has black shoes (with a white swoosh or stripe) not sure if they are Nikes or Pumas. You may want to contact their gym and ask them where they got them.

    All-Star Best Scorpion

WOW!!! The flexibility on these girls on the last few pages is GORGEOUS!!! They would make great dancers or acro gymnasts!!!

    All-Star Best Scorpion

Speaking anatomically, I see scorpions being pulled two different ways in these pics--one way is with the knee facing out and the other with the knee facing to the back. I would think that these are two DIFFERENT stretches in regard to where the hip joint is rotated. It's hard to explain but...

    All-Star Flyer Vs Flier

I tend to use "flyer" when referring to cheerleading. "Flier" reminds me of the piece of paper used for distributing advertising. But I suppose both could be appropriate.
