At my gym, they didn't actually have us do many advanced stunts for tryouts (I ended up on IONT7). Not sure what the flyer tryouts were like, but the bases didn't try out with anything more difficult than a high to high tiktok and a 180 switch up. Also, jumps and motions. The coaches were really...
That depends on your school. The school where I coach, we can''t practice for the week of exams and the week before exams. It's a semestered-school, so that means no practices for the last two weeks of January. So, you're off for two weeks over Christmas, back for a couple of weeks, then off for...
I'm on a parent team that really does take what we do seriously, but have a lot of fun at it too; so we're working on full ups and low-high switch libs, and trying to do cartwheels! :) I'm 42, and not the oldest on the team, either. Cheerleading doesn't have to end when you "age out," find an...
A couple of people have mentioned "the direction all-star cheer is heading" in this thread… what direction are you talking about? What do you find problematic with it? (This may be a whole other thread…"
FWIW, this is what I said, and I'm still getting slammed for it on this person's fb page: "They did really, really well. I hope their lower difficulty tumbling doesn't hurt them too badly… Their stunts and dance and jumps were really, really amazing. I hope they get rewarded appropriately. I...
I wonder how cheerleading is ever going to grow into being the sport we want it to be/proclaim it to be when honest commentary is so often so strongly condemned.
Truly, it is not poor sportsmanship, I think, to discuss a team's performance noting "Team X's level of difficulty in their tumbling...
Saw this on the UCA facebook page today, their webinars are usually really good, they might be able to help, too: It's time to sign up for the next UCA Coaches Academy. Here are the details:
Topic: Breaking Down the UCA High School & Rec Competition Judging Sheets
Date: Tuesday, October 23...
The school where I coach is a tech school, so there's only about 100 girls in the whole school. We don't have tryouts; if you want to be on the team, you're on. (I think some of the girls who are on now would have been too nervous or embarrassed to come to a tryout.) This makes for REALLY...
We're in the same boat. One comp we did last year had a judge talk to the team between runs, and I mentioned that we don't have the panels for practice. He said he had seen teams have some success by marking the lines simply with traffic cones, poms, shoes or whatever along the front edge...
Our school is a vocational school, so a number of our athletes are majoring in aesthetics. For each competition, anyone who's interested posts photos of what they come up with on our Facebook group and they vote on what to do. (We retain veto!!) Gets them all interested and involved, and their...
The AACCA certification is required by many programs' insurance companies, it's a lot about safety stuff. I did mine online through NHSF, not complicated at all. If the USASF levels courses get you AACCA certification, go with that, but you may well need to do both.
Oh, man! Maybe that's why they're posting the changes now, I'm betting a lot of people are going to be reconsidering what gym they're cheering with next year for exactly that reason!
