Great advice. I don't expect her to go elite or do this in college, but I want her to be happy and feel successful while she's doing gymnastics. It hurts my heart that this place seems to have these reservations at such a low compulsory level, whereas the cheer gym was so positive about her. I...
She really loves both. She hasn't had nearly as much experience with cheer. Aside from cheer camps and tumbling, not much experience with stunting and dance. I wish there was a way to have her do both!

Thanks so much for all of your responses. We decided to try gymnastics team, yet she does 1 hr of cheer tumbling. So far it seems gymnastics may not have been the right choice. Despite having good tumbling skills, gymnastics is less than impressed. The coaches complain a lot about her "form"...
Well, she had her first "team practice" for three hours tonight. I know it's a lot to go from one hour once a week to three hours twice a week. She complained a lot and tried to convince me her stomach hurt and she needed to go home, right before asking for some tootsie rolls. She was not...
That definitely makes sense. There is no way her skills on the other 3 events are strong enough to compete level 4 or 5 for gymnastics! Gah!! Would it be ridiculous to let her continue tumbling once a week for the next year at the cheer gym and give the gymnastics team a try? If she doesn't...
^That sounds about right for the cheer I think. Not that it's the end of the world, but I was thinking she might lose those tumbling skills if she doesn't use them on the gymnastics team. I know she can relearn, but it feels like the year will have been a waste of time and $. It's really up...
Louisiana will be competing gymnastics at level 1 from what I understand. It's the old level 2. I know she will be bummed if she isn't at least practicing her back handsprings.
I think the mini team is level 2 at the cheer gym. So maybe she would be doing the same level of tumbling either...
She is tumbling at cheer level 3 and is working on a back tuck now. She started cheer tumbling this year with a backbend kick over and learned her back handspring and round off back handspring surprisingly fast. I don't really understand why gymnastics is putting her at level 1 (not trying to...
I really think I created this dilemma by not considering that she might also get really sucked into cheerleading. I'm not sure she understands the difference since she has primarily done tumbling at the cheer gym, but she has done two cheer camps there and loved those.
She loves floor and...
Hi,
I am trying to help my just turned 6 yr old daughter make a decision between cheer and gymnastics team. She began taking gymnastics around age 3 1/2 or so. The gymnastics gym had a Preschool ages 3-5 group. She loves gymnastics, but this past year when she turned 5, I decided to let her...
