Why would it be unfair? If anything, they're at the disadvantage since they have less time built in to their routine to perform all the required elements. I'd be impressed if they can pull that off and win.
This!! My daughter's team got their bid early this year, too. Then they struggled quite a bit at many of the other comps this season. I don't know if other girls/parents felt this way, but it seemed like their fight for 1st was less when they already had that bid earned. Last year it was a fight...
The lack of transparency kills me! My CP has been cheering for 8 years and the difference in how the comps are run now compared with when we started is so disappointing. I remember the excitement of seeing scores after day 1 and knowing how close (or far) you were to 1st. Or knowing your...
We left the venue both days for lunch at our last 2 day comp and it made a huge difference in the way we felt at the competition and the following day. A healthy lunch, fresh air, and a break from the music & lights seemed to help reset the body to handle everything better.
I've got friends with male cheerleaders and it can be so tough on the kids. Other boys can be cruel for the dumbest things. The boys I know have some kick-butt tumbling skills, so they lay it all on the mat and amaze everyone when they compete.
We do gift cards to their favorite restaurants or coffee place, usually a personalized, hand made card with a team picture, sometimes jewelry. The first year our gym took multiple teams to summit, we found a necklace pendent that looked like the summit logo and teams went together to purchase...
My daughter's HS cheer squad started their summer practice schedule with a 2 day camp to review the basics back in at the beginning of June after school got out. Since then, the whole squad (JV & Varsity) practice 2x a week for 2 hours and the competition squad practices an additional 1x per...
My daughter will be a Junior and had a very difficult HS cheer coach her first two years, so I can sympathize. Like other comments, I'd encourage your daughter to talk to the coach first at a time when emotions won't be running high and separate from the rest of the team. If that doesn't work...
I wonder what gyms are going to those early competitions. Maybe gyms/teams that didn't go to Summit? We used to end our season in March and routines were finalized by the summer, but now team placements aren't until after Summit and routines and music aren't anywhere near comp ready by August.
My CP is starting her 8th year of cheer and is on her 3rd year of a Sr 2 team going into 11th grade. She loves cheer, is highly committed to the gym and team, but tumbling does not come easy for her. She's got all the skills solid for a lvl 2 team and is a great base, but she will have to put a...
Yes! Those are all good things, too. Parents see their kid with great jumps get put on the back or the side and the kid and the parent are unhappy, yet they don't think about the fact that she's a back base and has to get to a new spot on the mat immediately after jumps are done.
I wouldn't see it as a demotion, but my daughter wouldn't choose to do a prep team unless that was the only option to participate in cheer. In our area, prep teams practice less times a week and are usually filled with kids who either are true beginners to cheer or have too many other...
We have so many new parents each year and they truly don't know enough about the sport to know what questions they should be asking. They often learn by talking fellow parents, but that info is very hit and miss for accuracy. I'd love it if our gym covered topics like: general placement...
My CP will be at a 4 day camp at Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells. She is so excited to go there again this year. They had a blast last year and really helped her get to know the girls on the squad as a freshman.
