We have done 2 day home camps for years and generally have had good experiences. We choose to not learn the dance or cheers and work on stunts or elements of our routine like the cheer. We feel like we get the most out of it by doing it this way!
We put a ton of focus on our JV and treat both teams as equal. We coach both teams which helps. We keep our Jv in mind with every decision that we make, this year we are struggling with varsity squad size and part of the struggle is making sure there are enough kids for a strong JV team. I know...
They did globe in 2016 but this year they didn't make finals. They only had 15 athletes on team this year - I am assuming this is because they only had 15 total level 5 athletes in their gym that they felt were ready for a Worlds team. I know other teams with less members in small senior like...
Actually like the idea of an x-small division but honestly not a fan of the stipulation that gym can only have 1 worlds team. This division is already giving gyms with less athletes an advantage because they need less kids to max out. Also a thought: say a small gym decides to field an xs team...
Totally agree with you. It's okay to feel a little disappointed or bitter but publicly tweeting or discussing the athlete is NOT the right way to handle! This is a business and that athlete wanted to try another gym. There is nothing wrong with that. I am not the biggest fan of kids uprooting...
We got uniforms from Varsity for under 100 for our Jv. Girls purchase their own motion flex
Liners which are around 35 I believe? What saves money from Varsity is one large letter as opposed to spelling out the school or mascot. Personally I like the clean look of one letter and it saves you a...
Would be more on par with coed college score sheets. Don't believe there is a jump or dance section. And for all girl, there is a dance but no jumps I believe.
Have to agree. Some level 5s I still really enjoy like Beatles. Lower levels to me all look the same and are a getting boring/redundant. Of course there are some lower level teams I really enjoy, but overall it has gone a little down hill for me.
Agree- at high school nationals I love competing in tent for first rounds. Can be much closer to the team and the energy is insane! For finals, we sit in coaches box/fan viewing section and they are so far from team! I saw at Worlds and at both summits they allowed people in front of mat. Hoping...
Love more emphasis on technique. Not sure about dance. Two points!??? Why bother! lol it will sadly help my team because they usually aren't the best dancers but I appreciate a good dance and think 5 was low enough! Not a huge deal obviously. Overall good changes
I find the age grid in general a little ridiculous. 10 to me is too young for senior. I even think 12 is still a little young for a Worlds team, would prefer 13-14. I think youth is okay starting at 5 but junior should be 8-9. I totally get it that small gyms may need exceptions so maybe the d2...
I know teams are able to have cross overs but not sure about crossing over different levels. Teams are allowed to have 5 crossovers from Worlds teams to summit teams- if it is level 5 or R5 I believe number goes up to 8? Edited: it is only a junior non restricted that can go up to 8 :)
Agree...
It may have been a really good cover. My teams music this year all sounded like the original songs, couldn't tell any were covers (in my opinion) so hopefully it was just a good cover!
We try to keep it that you must have tuck to be considered for varsity as a minimum requirement. A round-off tuck would be the lowest skill that would qualify. BUT we sometimes need to make exceptions because we need the stunts to work. Last year we took two really strong bases without tucks...
In high school and college cheer, finalists depend on divison size instead of choosing the top 10 from each division. I would kind of like to see this at Worlds! Small Coed and AllGirl are so large I really wish a few more would make finals! Nothing crazy, but maybe 12-15 depending on division...
