So, it has been a lonnng time since I have been here, but I wanted to post an update in case someone looking for threads on mental blocks happens to read this. We took my daughter out of cheer over a year ago because of this frustrating mental block. I had honestly just resigned myself to the...
Unfortunately, things just got progressively worse towards the end of the season, and we have taken her out of cheer for this year. She will be doing gymnastics instead. We told her that she can return next year if she feels less stressed.
In all fairness, her team coach has been wonderful in this.....no pressure at all and she is a wonderful coach. In our circumstances, the pressure is self induced.n I have a competitive child who likes perfection, and is extremely hard on herself when things don't go perfectly. I do agree with...
I would believe it. I have seen parents threaten and bribe sadly. At the end of the day, I just want her to be happy. Staying in cheer with thus stress will not make her happy, but at the same time taking her out of cheer won't make her happy either. I think moving her down a level will be...
Oh gosh no.....this is not a ploy to get her to get her skills. I am dead serious about this. The stress level is at an unhealthy level right now, and as a mom, I cannot allow this to continue. I think she will thrive on the level 1 team with confidence because she will be a big asset to them
So, I have a question for anyone, but especially coaches.......
We are still really struggling. She had been doing her standing handspring for the last 2.months, but no other level 2 skills, and now this week, she is blocking on the standing handspring again. Her stress level is at an Insane...
Have you considered looking into doing privates possibly at a gymnastics gym? There may be more opportunities for one on one privates, lots of high end equipment for her to learn on, and especially with level 1 skills like front and back walkovers, gymnastics fundamentals can be really helpful...
Actually, one of the qualities of ADD/ADHD is actually hyper focus oddly enough. They hyper focus on things they really want or love, and just cannot focus on things they are not interested in. I think this causes her to overthink it because she wants it soo badly. Of course, anxiety is also a...
Just wondering how many of you who have dealt with mental blocks also have focus issues or possibly ADD/ADHD?
My daughter has been dealing with pretty bad mental blocks on her tumbling for 7 months now after a scary fall in Aug. She has been working with a wonderful gymnastics coach for the...
I am curious. When you are blocking, are you able to successfully do the skill on another surface? My daughter can do handsprings all day long on my bed, or on a crash mat, and will do them on the gym floor with a soft mat beside (totally a psychological thing because the mat is not even...
Did great at practice last night, and then went to open gym tonight and was in tears because she was blocking a ton again. Sigh..... Wish I knew what caused this sudden drop in confidence today. Nothing happened to cause it that I am aware of.
I actually find that where we are, the smaller gyms tend to have more crossovers simply because they may not offer a certain level for the child's age group. For example, my daughter is youth level 2, however she has a couple of teammates who crossover to junior level 3 because they have level...
Wow...shocks me that they would threaten to move an 11 yr old, level 2 on the first day of a block! My daughter has been working through her block for 5 months now, and not once was this ever suggested. As a matter of fact, I asked if this was a possibility and her coaches and the program...
Hi everyone, just wanted to give you an update on how things are going. Christmas break allowed her to de-stress significantly. Over the holidays, she attended a clinic at a local gymnastics gym, and loved the coach, and asked me if she could try doing some privates with him. So, she has had...
What kinds of other issues? My daughter will throw a perfect backhandspring on any soft surface, or even on the floor with a mat beside her (crazy I know!) but not on the floor once she takes a few steps away. I wish I could show you a video of what I mean, but I do not know how. This all...
My daughter's block is due to a combination of factors from this list. She learned insanely fast...front roll to standing tuck in less than a year and then the very first time she had a big fall (a complete fluke) it shook her to the core, and she is a perfectionist (a big issue at school as...
How long did her longest block last? We are at 4 1/2 months now, and it seems like forever, but I guess in the grand scheme of things, it really isn't that long at all.
