Absolutely! Kudos to NCA for cracking down. Unfortunately, it seems like UCA/Varsity may not be taking the matter quite as seriously. One might question if it has anything to do with the fact that some of the coaches from cheating teams are also current or past UCA employees. I certainly hope...
If I'm not mistaken, that is the EP that once had NO performace mats & decided the DAY OF their event to cancel the competition (after teams had already booked rooms & traveled)! I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the one! Our team had pulled out a week before the comp because the gym...
Basically the kids were instructed to play musical names. The other kids knew that this person was supposed to say they were...(whoever they were pretending to be).
Both. Some left the gym, some were just not on the team. Yes, they were using names of kids that were rostered but not present & sometimes it involved instructing multiple children on a team to lie about their name/age. They would have to play musical names, because (for example) a 7 or 8 year...
I posted under the wrong thread, & couldn't delete it...So, I was gonna leave a smiley face here instead...but it won't let me do that either...Sooo, I'll just say..."Have a wonderful day!!"
That sucks that your family is saying these things to you. I would think that your success with tumbling is going to be more closely related to your physical strength, skill & determination. You can do whatever you set your mind to!!
Wow! That's a really good question! I never thought of that! I have 2 kids suffering from mental blocks. One has had 2 bad falls & the other was throwing her bhs but suddenly locked up & refused to throw it without a spot. Both kids have ADHD/focus issues. I never give them their meds before...
I might buy into it if the athlete mentioned hadn't also decided to sit out of all-star cheer. So, I don't think it's the athlete wanting to do it. & yes, the athlete does have level 5 skills. Without going into detail (a whole different thread) yes, the athlete(s) did make a HUGE difference @...
I agree with you. It's not me personally. I was familiar with the situation & thought 'WHY would you get athletes from outside your gym to come & compete 3 levels below their skill level?' Then I thought, 'well, what would I do in their shoes?' & I was curious as to what others thought as well...
That's why I was curious to see how other people thought they might feel if they were in that situation. From the outside looking in, I think it's unethical. However, if it were my child, my friends, etc. how would I feel then?? It probably wouldn't occur to me that it was unethical, especially...
That was something I didn't understand either. That's why it seemed more unethical because it's not a matter of using an athlete from the gym (regardless of the level), it was intentionally seeking a level 5 athlete from outside the gym. It's not like it's for World's or anything. Idk. there are...

That's interesting! I know that baseball teams do that. They can drop a player from their roster so that the player van legally play for another team for a game. I think stuff like this is a lot of the reason why our sport has so much difficulty being considered a sport & getting the...
Sorry for the loss of your friend. Thanks for sharing, that is great! It floors me that it was mid 70's before the school had their first black cheerleader. Since many college campuses have organizations that represent the different races, cultures, religions, etc associated with the school...
I love hearing different opinions! I realize that using one athlete way over the skill level isn't 'sandbagging' but, @ what point does it become so?

I was more using the bhs as an example. This athlete also does school cheer where she is more limited in the skills, so the level 2 skills aren't foreign to her. But I never thought of the points you made. When I think about it I'm honestly also thinking about her flying in stunts.
Maybe I should specify that it's not just one athlete. I guess it just throws a red flag for me if a team is going to reach out to an athlete that's not with their gym anymore & ask them to drop 3 levels, when there's a gym full of available athletes. I'd be upset if my child with true level 2...
I am interested to see what the varying opinions are from all points of view, athletes, coaches & parents...
An athlete has competed @ a gym off & on for years, but the athlete's skills have progressed & the gym does not have a suitable team. The athlete goes to a new gym & competes on a level 5...
