Learning to allow your bases to stabilize you, over keeping yourself steady is a tough transition! I made the switch from a Level 10 gymnast to cheerleader in high school. I knew I didn't want to compete in college, but I did end up cheering in college. I did high school cheer (all star was...
As a coach I will judge comps that are not in my county, or in my county if there isn't a HS division. I don't want anyone saying I'm biased b/c I coach in that county.
Simple and classic. Coco Chanel said "before you walk out the door, look in the mirror and take off one thing"....I think this needs to go for uniform design too "before you send it to production, look at it and take off 3 things!"
One of my boys plays on an all-star team in the summer. You tryout in October and are placed on a team, you pay the $1500 (covers summer practices, uniforms, and tournaments). It's non-refundable, so if DS blows his ACL playing in the winter and still can't play when summer rolls around-I'm out...
Duct tape.
Kidding (sort of). At that age they LOVE to talk. No stunting till the talking stops works. I would also have a meeting with all of the girls and their parents and explain that the talking has become excessive and you will not stunt or jump until it stops, and if that means...
Burpees, pushup variations (regular, hands wide, diamond, shoulder taps) You can also have them kick up to handstand against a wall and do shoulder taps that way.
I like to do this drill, only I add an incline mat on top of that pit mat-the higher end of the incline closest to the athlete. It should be about mid back height when the athlete is standing with his/her back to the mats, this forces them to set up, not back.
Have her lay on the floor and hold hollow. You should be able to pick up her feet and her entire body will come up as one plank (no break at the hips), if she's staying tight. I then grab her feet and try and pull them apart, and turn her side to side. She should hold that plank position the...
I don't agree with "punishment" for not hitting. I do believe in corrective action for not hitting. What do I mean by this? If a stunt falls, telling the stunt group to run laps isn't going to make that stunt hit. You need to figure out WHY that stunt isn't hitting and then have the group...
The schools you listed are not DIII. I can tell you that UDel and JMU are tough to make. JMU is co-ed only, and for both schools you'll need a standing tuck at minimum. Both teams require strong stunting skills.
Make a decision on a school based on academics and if the school itself is a good...
Even with "parent permission" legally it's considered hazing. If it's something that one group does to another group within the team, it's hazing and it's illegal.
