Agreed, tumbling is hard on the body. Some of our kids were struggling with recovering from or having current broken backs, fingers, ankles, post surgeries, brain surgeries, mental blocks, etc. Most of the kids had never been to worlds some level 3s and 4s, r5s, older athletes who no longer tumble like they used to when in their prime etc. The only thing I know about Lady Lux is a lot of them came from their original spotlight 4.2 team and did not possess world tumbling but natural progression from level 4 to level 5 stunts. I dont know how many were first time worlds kids but they were amazing. There was one team at worlds who started as a 4.2 and switched up to level 5 to try to go to worlds. I thought that was awesome. I dont really know the makeup of most of the teams last season and none this season lol. Congrats on your kiddos globe. Mine also globed with a bronze medal her first (and last) worlds trip. It was truly amazing for her and her team to hit zero at worlds and come home with a globe. I will be so excited to see all the teams this year and root them all on.

I’m excited about the expansion of NT because 4.2 is one of my favorite divisions to watch. Without the flashy tumbling, it just seems like many of the teams are very creative with their choreography and the stunting is a lot more varied than in a regular level 4. I think NT has the potential to be a similarly creative division.

And, as a parent with a kid who is much weaker on tumbling than stunting, it’s nice to see that there is a role for her to advance. She’s never going to be on an open 6 or 7-but she could potentially get the skills to be on an NT open team and continue into adulthood.

And if they just created open 1, our parent team might be a contender....

I have always loved 4.2 for the same reasons, the creativity of the routine. I love seeing something different.

I'd say the majority of our athletes on NT teams do tumble. Some about level 3/4, others at a true Worlds level with fulls, jump tucks, etc. We also have a few who don't tumble but are tank stunters. The majority no longer want to tumble due to age, injuries, etc. A few could be on a tumbling team this year but were placed on the NT for different reasons. They're still participating in tumbling classes to keep that up as they may be placed on a tumbling team next year. All athletes are placed on the team that they will be best suited for both themselves and the team they're on. NT teams just mean the athletes don't tumble in the routine, not that they don't tumble overall.

Props to you for that man. I'm 26 now and still competing on an open 6 and the dynamic has changed a lot now, which makes it harder. Open teams used to be primarily college kids or recent college grads but now that 12 year olds are on open teams the whole dynamic has changed. I still love cheer but I'd be lying if I told you that it wasn't weird sometimes to be on a team thats a 50/50 split between school aged kids and college kids/grad students.

The hard part isn't the cheerleading, the hard part is just that I'm at a very different place in my life. I have a job, a child, and a career that isn't related to cheerleading at all. It's a completely different dynamic than it was back in college where I was on a team with other college students and we were all at the same place in our life.

Since Level 6 International/Open now have many younger kids on it, I wonder if level 7 will grow in popularity. Level 7 age grid is 17 and over. Not all College age, but a lot closer to it.

I think all star gyms are weary of trying level 7. Remember when reckless had the video of its first practice and the coaches were freaking out over back tuck baskets even though the flyers all had standing fulls and running doubles?

The way the levels are set up now the progressions are so illogical from 6 to 7. Stunts are basically the same for 6 and 7 but pyramids and baskets aren’t even related to one another. There’s literally no training for level 7 stunts and pyramids in lower levels, it’s ridiculous.

I didn't realize all of that. I am usually not for more divisions, but sort of sad there aren't more options for the 17 and up age group.

Kinda seems more of the opposite. Level 7 seems to be getting smaller every year :(

That is disappointing. I love watching level 7.
