I was really impressed with IU this evening.

Also: I see you USF about to crack the top 3.

I can't stand the intermediate division but your comment is ridiculous. NCA seems to get a lot more attention than UCA does. Both do Game Day, which is just as "second rate" as intermediate in my opinion.
The two competitions cater to different styles. With the exception of UK, I think the top teams at NCA have as much if not more talent than the top teams at UCA.

Internal convos are rumored to have already occurred where major changes with UCA/NCA would happen in the future..

Varsity knows it cannot have two college championships that feature DIA and DI teams. That just looks foolish when the International Sport committees come look at the work they set up (explaining nuanced brand style to foreigners who barely get cheer on a basic level). As well as for media buys too. Its confusing.

Rumor has it that UCA will stay the official national championship as its been for over a decade, but will be for all Division 1A and Division 1 teams. Then D2/Open teams will be at NCA, making it a national championship once again, but for their respective divisions.

NCA already has so few DIA teams that it honestly makes a lot of sense. Will ruffle a lot of feathers, but the sport needs it IMO

Thoughts on whether they'll merge styles a bit?

that i asked about and was given no indicators either way. i don't think they've focused on that much in the conversations (i could be wrong, this is all hearsay).

but i gotta wonder if they use this change in landscape to create a better default performance style for cheer. one that might be more aligned with the ICU format?

Good point. In fact, not very many college teams compete at the NCA College Nationals these days, especially in the advanced divisions like Louisville, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, SFA, etc.

This isn't surprising to me at all - we've already seen the changes with the elimination of the partner stunt competitions (I'm glad that Nfinity is working to keep the partner stunt competitions alive - I hope it takes off for them). And they will most surely use UCA just for the fact alone "Varsity arena".

Well the partner stunt comps are still happening. Just aren’t being broadcast or highlighted due to international issues. The sport of Acro has taken offense that partner stunt is too similar.

Of course they’ll use the arena and UCA. It’s where nhscc, summit, worlds, and icu are.

The big V has to pay for it somehow. I'm wouldn't be surprised if they merged. I wonder how it would affect scheduling though given that NCA is 3 months after UCA?

It's my understanding this is the last year for partner stunt competition through UCA and NCA. Is that not correct?

I love NCA. I love that it isn't at Disney. I prefer the style of routines. I like how it doesn't feel like a Varsity product at all. I like the beach. I like April. I like the venue better than all the all star venues I ever went to. I will be sad to see that end, but perhaps my girl will have graduated before it happens.

I feel the same way - we have a blast there every year. And the cost is significantly less for twice as much fun. Most of the top teams who attend UCA don't get a winter break and barely are able to come home for Christmas if they live out of state. I think that sucks given hardly anyone is on a scholarship. I think the writing is on the wall though and Disney in January is what it will be. Personally I'd be ok if Nfinity added a college division in addition to their partner stunt competition but I'm not sure how many colleges would be on board with that.
I'm guessing if this in fact happens to college nationals then high school nationals will be affected the same way at some point.
