Honestly this is embarrassing. As a fellow coach and professional, I think it is such a shame that we are promoting this and encouraging this as "exciting, and fun"

I get it, we've all felt it, but I'm still doing a job when I'm at the front of that mat or watching my team compete. I think it's distracting honestly, and if I were judging it would be incredibly irritating to have that happening in my peripheral.

Are we really nitpicking this? Are y'all actually serious? If you have never looked slightly ridiculous at a comp you must not be that invested in your kids.

I guess we all just have different opinions on this.

These are not my CP's coaches or even our gym. I just came across this article and I remember seeing them. My CP was competing at the same competition.

Yes the coaches were over the top, I don't know if they are like that all the time or what; BUT I personally thought they were fun to watch at this event. They put a smile on my face. The energy was insane and I think the team fed off that.

That team won their division and got grand champs for the level.
But I do think it is a little crazy that this made "national news" lol

Yeah, don’t you need your kids to see your energy from the mat? Don’t you want them to? It’s infectious for them. As an ex-comp judge I can see it could be grating, but that’s also part of the experience as an athlete AND coach. Plus it’s not like supporting your kids is going to get you a deduction so... good for them.

Plus as an introvert, this is one of the only times I get to look like a complete fool and really let my emotions go unchecked and not feel weird about it later.

I think there’s a lot more stuff more embarrassing in cheer nowadays than coaches being excited

I can't say I'd get that out there, but if my screaming, freaking out, dancing along, anything means my team will feed off of the and perform better, I'll do it. It's my job to get them to be their best and if that's what they need, that's what they'll get

As a parent, I’ve got to say that it absolutely warms my heart to see our coaches excited and really into the routine. Our kids DEFINITELY feed off of it, and it just makes it all so fun! One of my all time favorite cheer pictures is a shot someone captured of our two very strict, very no-nonsense, big, manly coaches hugging each other with tears after our team hit zero and they knew they had won a huge National. So many feels!! :)

I want my kid's coach to be invested and energetic and not care what others think. It shows they give a crap. Considering how much we pay for this, I want them to put their hearts into it. This video is sweet. I'm glad to see it.

My point exactly. You were caught up watching the chaos on the side, you weren't even watching the kids on the mat...

If that was your point why didn't make that clear from the beginning? If a judge can watch 36 girls on the mat I doubt 3 proud coaches in the corner will render them helpless.

i have several points to make about this, why are you so pressed about my opinion?

as a coach our role is to support the kids so they can perform and execute to their fullest. making yourself into a sideshow is not fulfilling that role. where is the professionalism in doing this? where is the leadership for the next generation of athletes and coaches?
