Cheerleaders and dancers are known for being leaders on and off the field, and it’s time to take the lead and stand up against those who bully others. Bullying is defined as a conscious, willful, deliberate and repeated hostile activity marked by an imbalance of power, intent to harm, and/or a threat of aggression. Severe bullying can lead to a feeling of terror on the part of the person being bullied. Bullying is happening around each of us every day, and it can happen anywhere.
You are the leaders of your schools and community, so what better time than now to stand up against bullies? Within your school, make sure everyone knows that bullying is not tolerated at any time. Team up with your coach and guidance counselor to work out a plan for those that are being bullied. Not telling someone and letting the bullying continue is the biggest issue, and it’s time that we created awareness within our communities to let those being bullied know that it is not okay to let it continue.
Remember to always set a good example, and never tolerate bullying within a squad. To raise awareness, you could place banners around your school or hold a National Anti-Bullying Day. Get creative with it and take a stand against bullying!
