I know there's a college dorm shopping thread, but what about apartment essentials?

I'm moving into my own(!!!) apartment in a few weeks, and I think I have mostly everything I need (except kitchen stuff--i got nothin').

I've lived in a house with 3 girls for the past year, but we all brought so many random things that were/weren't used, and I know i'm forgetting stuff.. any ideas of stuff I probably wouldn't think of on my own?

Me too! Ill be a freshmen in college this year and I didnt get on campus housing! Luckily I have 3 other freshmen roommates and were all really excited! Im moving down in two weeks also and I feel like theres SO MANY THINGS I still need to get. I made a HUGE list about a week ago and sent it out to my roommates! Here it is:

Every apartment is different. Some of these things I wont need because mine comes furnished. I dont know if your having roommates either so if you do then consult with them obviously :). Some really great places to look for kitchen things are Marshalls, TJ Maxx, ETC. Hope you find everything!

-Coffee Maker (if you can find one that makes hot water too thats a bonus!)

if you are still looking for a coffee maker, my dad gave me his, and it's AWESOME. I'll go look to see what kind it is when i get home if you're interested.

I just bought one yesterday! Its the Cuisinart one cup or something like that. I LOVE IT!

my brother just moved into a new apartment too. it seems for him, he basically used all of his dorm things(bedding, hangers, organization boxes etc) and all he really needed to buy was kitchen and cleaning supplies. his apartment came already furnished, so he didn't have to worry about any furniture. here's what it came with in case you want to use this as a shopping list.

2 beds
2 desks
2 dressers
kitchen table
4 kitchen chairs
sofa
big chair
coffee table
2 side tables
2 pillows

I have a really detailed list of anything you might ever need for an apartment or your dorm. Send me a PM if you'd like it! I'll e-mail it to you.

I've lived in an apartment for awhile now and most of you have gotten everything that you need to start off with. One tip that someone gave me while moving in, at the end of every season (fall, winter, summer, spring) head to stores like home depot, lowes, job lots, kohls, etc... because little things that you want but don't need or can't afford at the moment are normally on sale. Like all of my fans and heating blankets I bought at the end of the season for up to 75% off. After christmas or mothers day is when I go and buy new kitchen items and so on. This def helped save me tons of money.

That's a fabulous list that's been started, so I don't have much to add. For the kitchen, ice cube trays and a clock. And think about getting a a few small whiteboards--one next to the phone for messages if you are getting a landline, and one in the kitchen or common area to leave notes, or a grocery list, or cleaning assignments for the week, or bills due.

These are great lists! The only thing I would add would be duct tape, extra light bulbs and a small tool set which includes needle-nosed pliers and varying sizes of flat head and phillips head screwdrivers. Oh, and some good scissors.

I love how you included crafts! I have an ENTIRE 3 rubbermaids filled with crafting things Im bringing to school! I guess I would be in trouble if I had to try and fit it all into a dorm!

Def either get a whiteboard or you can get what I have which is this really cute wall decal that works as art but is also a chalk board. I found them at AC moore. You'll use these a lot especially when you start to run out of things.
