Okay, I know there was a sort of brag post a while ago in the allstar section, but I'd like to extend this to coaches, as well as parents, and even cheerleaders if you're excited about your progress. You know how when you get super excited when you learn a new skill? Well since I've been coaching, I've found that I get even MORE excited when my kids learn new skills! It is always especially exciting when you see the progress they've made in such a short period of time!

If you don't know, I coach what would probably be level 1 or beginner tumbling at a dance studio. We only have broken down panel mats to work with, so these are exciting to me :) I know they'll probably never see this, but I just wanted to give a couple shout outs to some of my kids, and I hope you'll do the same.

Anastasia, age 7: This girl started my class with a forward roll and a shaky left side cartwheel. I've been coaching her on tumbling since july, and today she can do a backbend from standing (light spot on the kick over), and a hand stand bridge (light spot on getting up, almost a front walk over). Her handstands are absolutely perfect, she looks like a gymnast doing them, and her roundoffs are amazing with a great rebound. Can't wait for her to get a back walkover. I want to start her on backhandsprings and front handsprings by the end of october. She has by far made the most improvement skill-wise.

Mabel, age 7: Mabel started my class without a cartwheel, but a lot of spirit. She can now do a cartwheel on both sides, a connected cartwheel roundoff, backbends from standing with a two finger spot, handstand forward rolls. She will try anything you throw at her, and she loves to practice outside of class. She shows great potential when she's paying attention.

Haley, age 8: Haley could only do a forward roll when she came in just over a month ago, and it wasn't a great nor clean one. Her skills have greatly improved. She can now do a backbend by herself, handstand bridge by herself, handstands, cartwheels, sometimes roundoffs. They just need to be cleaned up now. Her greatest improvement wasn't in her skills, but in her attitude. When she first came in she would NOT listen to me whatsoever. Now she's more in control, calls me Miss Nicole, and doesn't put her fingers in her ears when I talk anymore.

Ruby, age 12: Ruby has been a strong tumbler from the beginning (great technique, you can tell she wasn't new to tumbling), but I wanted to commemorate her because today she got her front walkover by herself :)

Now I want to hear YOUR stories! Did your son/daughter/you just get your cartwheel or your double full!? I wanna hear about it :)

I love this thread..... i coach 5 teams right now and have been coaching for 6 years, before that i cheered at the gym that im currently at so i have kids that are on our mini level 1 through sr 5 that i have known for those 6 years... i cant even name them all and their skills, but im so proud of them at all ages and levels, i get so excited to see the 6 year olds just be able to do a split and a backbend, and then the older girls who work so hard for years to tumble to finally be able to do a backhandsping or else be the best jumper on the team, and even to see them work on standing fulls for years and finally be able to land them (with smiles on their faces everytime). Its a great feeling knowing that we can help these kids reach their goals and learn new skills

I think i get more excited now about people learning new things then when i cheered

i don't have any recent brags lol but when i was at my old gym, i was the one who always "un mental blocked" the girls. alot of the times with the younger girls i would play "follow the leader" almost, and if i did it first, i could get them to do it. even with the older girls, i just had a way to get them over tumbling blocks. i know the pressure and stress of mental blocks, so it was easy to relate. i was also very good at getting the younger girls with little to no technique how to twist because i've re learned how to do it so many times.
nothing special, but i love helping people throw skills :)

My team is doing ticktocks and fullups to one legs and doubling down, when in july we were struggling with straight up aero double downs : )

My 6-year-old CP was finally able to do her backbend kickover on her own last Friday. She sometimes still needs someone to touch between her shoulders (I wouldn't even call it a light spot) to remind her to push back on her shoulders, but she does it on her own about 50% of the time. She just started allstar cheer 1 year ago and had only a forward roll, so this is huge for her. And, her coaches are letting her try it during standing tumbling in their routine in competition on Sunday.

So, after a week and a half, she's got it on her own. We made a video tonight. Please excuse my CP's goofiness. She takes the opportunity to dance any time she's being filmed.
