I think my issue with a specialist is how far away they will be. We don’t have one here in town so it will mean having to drive 2 1/2-3 hours away. But I am going to find one tomorrow and at least get an intial appointment and go from there. She’s more upset about her bday party Saturday that I think it’s best to cancel at this point. Swimming with a bunch of cheer kids doesn’t sound like a great idea, or the heat or sun. I’m hoping she feels better quickly she has a flight to Chicago July 3, and then to Baltimore July 10.

I would definitely call and ask about doing a long distance appointment if possible. Her doctor should be able to order the tests locally and have the results sent over. Canceling the party definitely sounds smart, fingers crossed on the flights.

She’s only feeling a little better. Seen the dr today and she was ordered to stay in a dark room for the next 2 weeks. She wants to wait on the concussion clinic only because it’s a 3 1/2 hour drive that she would have to be in sunlight. My daughter is heartbroken. She said hopefully with 2 weeks of quiet and darkness she’ll be able to heal and go on her trip.

I would call the concussion clinic. Many pediatricians are not up to date on all the specialities and newest research. That concussion center would be able to help you. I have been through this with 2 cheerleaders and the centers have a protocol to start doing specific rehab style exercises. They also have testing they do to progress recovery. They may be able to give you some more guidance. Also I would suggest buying a few things during this quiet time. Play dough, cooking mixes (small amount to read and processing step), simple arts and crafts (paint by numbers). She can do things in small spurts and these will help with concentration and reduce boredom as well.
