President extended nationwide social distancing guidelines until April 30th. Some states have put in open-ended stay put orders or have orders that extend beyond then.

Interested to see what Varsity does now. April 30th is 15 days before their first rescheduled event. Wish there was more transperancy in their original decision to reschedule. Would be nice to know if they are in contracts that they can't get out of with venues, cities, etc and their feet are being held to the flames or if it was themselves who pushed for the rescheduling. Just for wondering minds.

I know in Florida, they are expecting us to peak in early May. The idea of having a FL Competition in what is set to be the deadliest month for the state is just ridiculously irresponsible.

I imagine we'll all get to this point, or even longer, but I think they'll keep stringing it along little by little to avoid outright refusal to comply. Many people will ride it out (even unhappily) with a short end goal in mind. Putting a long time frame like that would be nice in the way of planning, but I imagine people just wouldn't listen.

I just read a post by a small company saying that companies are effectively closing but keeping money to try and get some float on the cash knowing that eventually they will need to refund/chargeback etc. It is my suspicion that this what is happening with Varsity. My state and many others are on an indefinite shelter in place order. People can be fined up to 5k for not complying with the restrictions. These comps will not happen.

Please pay attention to how Varsity has handled this.

A retail corp friend said the best way to describe work right now, is a flight attendant telling you to put your oxygen mask on first and then your child's, but the oxygen masks aren't dropping from the above compartment. Retail corp friend said trying to get a hold of anyone at a business that's closed is impossible (Disney and government venues-closed). If they're still operating they're saying voice mails are full, and if you do get a hold of anyone, the answer is pretty much a standard "I'm sorry, I have no idea and I don't know when I'll have an answer for you." My husband is in commercial finance and said they can basically provide small business loans up to $50,000 no questions asked (they're slammed), however, corps still have to provide due diligence and those loans take a lot of time and hands to go through to get approved. How can you even do that when you have multi-million per day operating budget and don't even know how long you'll be closed? At this point, I'm just praying small businesses and corps will survive, and people will have jobs to go back to.

I saw Woodlands Elite made the decision to completely end the 2019-2020 season. I respect their decision. I can only imagine how difficult it was to make. No matter what is decided some people will be upset.

    I saw that.

    Prediction:

You are going to slowly start seeing gyms making the "we are out" statement.

Some will hold on longer than others.

Worlds and Summit titles will basically go to WHOEVER DECIDES TO SHOW UP when this thing gets rescheduled.

Even if a division has one team.

The win will be an asterisk win known as "the year no one could attend."

I can’t speak for Varsity’s contract with Disney specifically, but generally there are no refunds when you reserve an event space at Disney World. I had my wedding there, and when we paid to reserve the wedding pavilion and convention center spaces, we signed a contract that said there were no refunds (although they would allow for rescheduling up to a certain point). Granted, I’m sure Varsity doesn’t have the generic rental agreement with Disney, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Disney was pushing them to reschedule rather than cancel. It’s a lot of money for both companies to be out.

If there are restrictions in place, I'm sure it will not run. But, if they hadn't planned rescheduled events, and everything was back to "normal" by May, I can guarantee there would have been pitchforks.

Varsity literally cannot do anything without people complaining. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. I truly believe they are doing what the rest of us are doing - just trying our best to make a plan through uncharted territory.

Look, I recognize Varsity does a lot of good and bad for this industry, but at the end of the day I do believe most of the employees (I said MOST, not all) want to do what is best for everyone. Justin Carrier is not sitting at home wondering how he can screw GYM XYZ out of their Worlds experience. This is uncharted territory, and they are trying to maintain any profit margin they can. There is just so much unknown.

I've seen a lot of gyms give the final "we're done" this week, and I think with the extension of May 1 being the earliest we see this end (and that's really pushing it), more will follow. There will always be those gyms holding out hope because "this was their year" but I really think just moving on is best at this point.

So, I recently made the decision (like, today) to push back a (non cheer) event that I chair.

So I got a VERY small taste of what it looks like to be the bad guy.

Trust me when I say that no one wins. It went like this:

Me: I have to push this back because COVID19.
Half the People: THANK YOU FOR PUSHING THIS BACK!
The Other Half: WOW HOW COULD YOU? WE HAD ALREADY BOUGHT HER DRESS! OH MY GOSH. THIS IS ALL SO EXTRA. SHE HAS BEEN PREPARING FOR THIS SINCE JANUARY.

    Rough day.
