I can't stand the crazy cheer moms that make me want to quit coaching... However I love the cheer moms who I can chill at the bar with :)

i dont know which type of cheer moms i prefer the angry screaming ones or the ones who are hammered with all their other friends before were even in the practice gym..
(a mom told me that if i make sure i catch her daughter (who was 10 at the time flying on a senior 4.2 for her first year) she'd take me to the bar and buy me a drink yeah i was only 16 and we were in las vegas)

somebody needs to repost level5moms classification of cheer moms through the years/levels, is perfect and right on the nose... one thing I recall from it was that 3rd year cheer moms were at peak-psycho point. i love it.:cheering:

Do you all watch Dance Moms? It's a local group for us and a lot of cheerleaders go to school with the girls and just attended an open house Abbey held. One of the girls and her Mom came to our gym recently to check us out but she had to wait to see if their show was going to be on another season and apparently everyone must be enjoying it because it has be extended.

A family friend was told her 4 year old should have started earlier when she tried to put him in hockey, and they literally cut him from the team. Yes, 4 years old.
Cheer parents are just like any other sport. The good ones will always be out shined by the crazies, but I think 95% of the time it's because they love their kids and want to support them. Often, they just don't know the line between support and full blown crazy.

I prefer the latter. Not the taking a 16 yr old to drink part, but I would rather they are out with there friends than hovering over my teams practice.

I thank god everyday that my mom isn't a crazy cheer mom. When I'm out there she cheers for me but I want her too. She's always happy to help me. If I think I'm not being tight in something, I'll do it infront of my mom and ask her to tell me. She tells me because I ask for the feedback. It's not like she's screaming bc I messed up a motion or something. I love my cheer mommy

Then you have the double whammy blend - All Star Cheer AND Hockey mom - like some of us! It takes a LOT of deep breaths, a lot of letting go, perspective focus, and good friends to keep us sane during the winter time!

i try really hard not to be a crazy cheer mom. I accept my childs strengths and weaknesses. i trust her coaches. i wear team colors like it's my job and am front row everytime she hits the floor. by the time the competition is over, i have no voice left. and yes, i stay all day to watch the other teams too!!

There are definitely some wacko-s out there in all sports but some of the instigation that I've seen from cheer parents is very sad. Sit back, let your child enjoy their experience, and enjoy watching them learn/be happy. If it gets to the point where it's not enjoyable anymore, than walk away. I don't see why it needs to be so crazy. People really should go back to the old kindergarten adage - if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

The other thing that makes me laugh are the parents who apparently know more than the coaches. Seriously? I believe that I'm paying them to do what's best for the team - not for one single person. There's no one person that makes a team be perfect. Each athlete adds something to the mix of that team & you have to trust and believe in your coaches that they'll ensure people are a good fit. Not saying I don't ever have a doubt - but I respectfully ask a question and get an answer which usually reassures me if I do have a question on something.

I used to laugh as I'd go from a cheer competition one weekend to a wrestling tournament the next weekend - talk about one extreme set of parents to the other. LOL!

That's my mom! Ive played hockey for 12 years now and cheered for 5! My parents take hockey more seriously with me, especially my dad!! But they both support me in cheering as well.
