I don’t understand why flocheer/varsity seem to desire an antagonist relationship with pretty much everyone. It seems as if they are just looking for content to remove and why?? The large gyms are not complaining so I doubt their music producers are if music copyright is their concern. This is not live streaming the event (which I understand the restrictions) it is after the fact and pretty much hurting nobody. But removing videos hurts the sport, wouldn’t you want content readily available should someone search to see what it is about? Grrrrr.

Yeah I just caught up with this since it blew up on IG. I've been turning it over in my head all day trying to figure out where Flo gets off. Unless there's a "no video" rule before you enter the venue, I cannot imagine how they have the right. I'm no copyright law expert, but it just seems to be that if it's his video, it's hands off? They don't own these routines. They don't own the venues.

BUT WAIT: does Flo buy the broadcast rights from the EP? That could be why they're getting away with it. But only under that circumstance.

Whether they're in the right or not, I feel like they're just throwing their weight around because it's not like this YT kid has enough money to take them to court or challenge them in any way.

Is there a way we could boycott them come Worlds? Like starting livestreams or something? If enough of us do it, they can't catch all of us.

^^^Back when the paid livestream used to NEVER WORK (via Cheerlive), all we had was periscope feeds. We could just go back to that via IG live?

It stinks because Flo is probably the most reliable paid feed provider Worlds has had, but they're being ridiculous at this point.

I dislike the situation, but I rely on flocheer. I can’t make it to the large expensive out of state competitions. Flocheer is reliable. I get to watch my kid compete live which means more to me than words can say. The periscope feeds do not compare. For that reason I won’t end my subscription.

I wish FloCheer /Varsity TV could work, hire, and partner with Andy. Make FloCheer the paid account that lets parents watch without commercials/advertisements, live, and show the cool episodes like Team USA Specials.

Keep Andy’s YouTube up, add commercials/advertisements, and split the profits from that between Andy/FloCheer.

Not that this has any chance of happening, but if you get the kids behind some of these cheer anon counts to volunteer to livestream chunks of Worlds at the price of a follow, they'd do it in a heartbeat. You get handfuls to volunteer to broadcast by time slot/arena/team, and make viewers follow them for access. Flo better hope the kids don't realize they have the power to do this. I know Flo offers clear videos without ads and that in itself is a valuable service, but at the end of the day literally everyone has a videocamera on them nowadays. Who do they think they're kidding trying to be the only game in town? That's a hugely outdated view.

Agree, I also wonder if they are missing an opportunity to monetize their content. I don't know how many subscribers they have or much about the economics of their business, but I do know that a terrible quality video from TGLC showcase one month ago has 101,000 views. If they would post videos after the stream on instagram or another platform and get advertising revenue perhaps that would be as profitable as their subscription model. They could still charge for live stream bc some people who can not attend in person will still want to see it live, and perhaps they could have other exclusive content too?

My biggest issue with Flocheer outside of the YouTube issues is, when I replayed some of the videos for BUTBT there is no sound. So you want me to pay for the livestream and the video playback but you can’t give me sound? I know they say it’s an issue with the producers but who wants to pay to watch a silent video?

I noticed that some Flo vids DO have sound this year. I think they have a deal with one of the music producers to use their music? Ex: If a team uses XYZ producer, they have sound.

Ex: SE, Orange, Panthers, and a few others.

None of the video playbacks have had sound since the new music rules took effect (with the exception of a few this year as mentioned). Still annoying.

Haven’t most (if not all) music producers said they’re okay with their music being added in video playbacks? I know at least DJ Rizz made a statement saying so. Just seems lazy on Flo’s part for leaving it out.

Also, why does the game day cheer division (WHICH HAS NO MUSIC) not have sound? Seriously, it's just lazy and annoying.

One thing I always wondered about GD music at comp: our band steals Notre Dame’s fight song (you’d know it if you heard it). So, to take it to UCA, does that mean I’d need to buy the rights? And if I can’t do that, then how do I provide our sideline dance music?

According to Notre Dame's website, the music for "Victory March" is in the public domain.

And according the the rules for UCA's competition, you would still need to provide the paperwork for the recording of the fight song.

We can be pissed off and point fingers at FloCheer all we want, but that is not who is causing this. Our very own Varsity and USASF were the ones who contracted with FloCheer. They are the ones in control of the contract and who are not only allowing it, but are supporting it as well. I don't understand why gym owners in particular are upset enough to publicly go after FloCheer but won't do the same to the actual culprits. I've said it before - gyms have power. If you get gyms to do business with independent companies for a year I am willing to bet you would see big changes within the industry and as a parent I would be willing to fully support my gym if they chose to do this.

But keep in mind you are an informed parent. Most parents think Summit is the end all, be all and would lose their minds if a gym decided not to bid chase for it.
