Is there a list anywhere that has the teams that know they will be going to summit this season because they took a deferred bid in 2013?
I've searched and come up with nothing so I apologize if there is a post floating around about this.
I know locally we have a handful of teams that have already secured spots for the 2014 summit and would assume there are several more gyms out there with bids already from the past season.

Teams were allowed to defer bids? Wondering what were the rules set for being allowed to defer. I find this very strange since I had thought that a team had to declare their intention to accept a bid before the competition; if they did not want to go then they were not even included in the bid running.

There were competitions that were held so close to the summit date that they were given the option to defer to this season. I know from our area it was sea to sky. I think this opens up Pandora's box for a whole lot of complaining from other teams that are going against gyms that has had an entire year to prepare for the summit but that's a whole other post....

Shouldn't everyone be preparing a year in advance and for the future if you even want a bid?

I don't like that at all. If people are able to defer, what would stop them from having tryouts as normal, and completely stacking the team with kids who didn't even earn the bid, and aren't level appropriate? Of course, this could happen regardless, but I think it's a bit easier to get away with if you're starting a new year.
I totally understand the reason for deferring and why it was offered, but it's opening up another can of worms.

The team that I know of specifically from my area has absolutely used the extra time as an advantage. Their team is stacked with kids that normally would have tried out for higher level teams but the temptation of a sure thing has lured them onto a lower level.
In past season all of their choreography has been done in house or locally and now they have branched out and have had lots of 'hands' on just this one team. So in that respect I think it is unfair but on the flipside if a gym was serious about chasing a bid then there is no reason they couldn't step up their own game a bit as well but I certainly would imagine as a coach or owner you would put a little more time and effort into a team that you know without a doubt is going to the summit.

I forgot to add - it seems silly to defer these bids, what if your junior 3 received one and you don't have the personnel for a junior 3 in the 2013-2014 season.. that is silly... but to my point above, you should always be prepping ahead of time.

Yuck! I don't like the fact that a team can defer bids. EPs should plan better so the bids offered are in competitions earlier in the season - say up until 6 weeks before Summit and if a team can't make it they can refuse the bid.

I haven't heard of this either but the teams were updated throughout the season pretty timely. I don't understand why an EP would hand out bids so close either. Varsity should put a deadline to issue these bids and it not be 6 weeks before the actual Summit.

Wow! This could really open up a pandora's box of problems and complaining. On one hand, I understand why a team wouldn't have enough time to make arrangements to get to the Summit that late. However, they shouldn't have received a bid that close to the competition. We've had so many complaints about teams scrambling to stack their teams for the Summit...now we give some teams an entire year to plan?! Bottom line is that EVERY team assembles their best to prepare for a successful season no matter what bids they are seeking (if they are seeking bids at all). BUT a team that has a bid to the Summit already can easily talk their higher level kids into cheering down a level or crossing over.

How "close to the summit" are we talking about? The weekend before? Worlds bids can be given as late as the 2nd/third weekend in April with worlds only a few weeks away. Hell, even getting your bid in December is hard enough to fundraise and collect money for a lower income area/gym. I see this year One up is the weekend of April 14th and Worlds is the weekend of April 26-28th this year. Thats a LITTLE over a week. What makes Summit different than Worlds?

I'm actually dreading the possibility of a Summit bid at Sea to Sky. It just seems impossible to manage a trip so far, in so little time. I can see why that team deferred (although, it surprised me at the time that they were given the option).

Eta: three weeks in between the competitions. Last year, my daughter's team received a Summit bit on March 17 and that seemed to be cutting it close.

You can't have crossovers at Worlds. That's the difference.
