Vancouver All Stars won 3 At Large Summit Bids from USA National Championships in Anaheim, CA: Jr3, Sr4 & Sr4 Coed. The competition was so late that they allowed International teams needing a year to fundraise to defer. 2 weeks later, the VAS Youth 2 Ice Crystals won an At Large at Sea to Sky and the Vancouver Sr4 Reign Team won the Paid (upgraded from At Large) So, all 4 teams have deferred their bids till 2014. This is the last year teams will be able to defer bids.;)

I wonder if that's why we've are more aware of the deferred bids since they are more local teams that are taking them.

Sea2Sky was allowed to defer because it wasn't added to the competitions eligible to give out bids until late in the season and the due date for entry fees was the Monday after the competition was held. Also we were told the team hotels were booked up and there wasn't room so Varsity required that competition to defer. My understanding is that this was the only year they will allow it. My daughter was on the team that won a deferred bid. The gym made the choice not the parents. I am upset and my daughter was upset it had to be deferred because she helped earn the bid but couldn't compete for it this year because we switched gyms. I know that the team already having a bid wasn't advertised to pull in more people and the team is still 75% made up of the same girls that won the bid. I feel the girls have more to prove on that team this year then last year because they still need to show they deserve to go this year and are gunning for a paid bid. I just really wish they could have gone to the first ever Summit that experience would have been awesome. My daughter seeing all her friends posts from there upset her a lot. Also I don't think that gym has used the bid as a recruiting tool it wasn't mentioned in their video once that they had it only mentioned the teams that went to worlds and the paid bids to summit.

Perhaps her gym didn't (which is commendable) but I'm not naive enough to think other gyms won't recruit and stack those teams. Meaning your daughters former teammates are at a disadvantage they might not have had last year. That's not fair to them.

This was posted April 11th after the J2 team received their deferred bid. Nothing in there is using that as a tool to recruit people to the tryouts they held for this season.

The tryout flyer that was posted on NV's facebook page on May 17th and also sent out on Twitter stated: Junior Venom : Junior Level 2 -Summit Bid for 2014.
I'm thinking this was placed on the tryout flyer as a tool to recruit add'l junior age kids for this team. ;)

It's cool not a big deal I know that 75% of the girls that won the bid are on the team this year still and the girls they added are new.

This was just posted under the sea to sky web site... so I guess more deferred Summit bids.

    Exciting News Release:
SEA TO SKY 2014 will be awarding some of the top placing L1 to L4 Teams with a bid to compete at THE SUMMIT at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando FL. ONE team will be awarded the highly coveted PAID BID. This team will be selected to attend this event with registration fees, accommodations and Disney passes - ALL paid for. Additionally, THREE teams will be awarded AT LARGE BIDS. All Bids may be used for May 1-3 2014 or a team can choose to defer their attendance for the 2015 year.

Interesting. I doubt my daughter's coaches would defer, but I can see why teams would consider it. Even with all the planning in the world, it would be a huge, expensive undertaking to plan a coast-to-coast trip in such a short amount of time. Hopefully, we'll get bids out of the way earlier in the season. ;)

Ugh I really dislike that they are doing it again this year. If teams defer this year that's not right. They are going for the bids this year and should be prepared as such. I think that if the teams are deferring it should go to the next team that won't defer.

Would much rather see ATC at meydenbauer as a summit event early in the season instead But I'm sure there are Canadian logistics at play here.
