ETA: this the the gofundme for Mr. James endorsed on the CheerForce SD Twitter page, but be advised that there are concerns about its legitimacy. I'd suggest everyone read the comments on the page before donating. To be clear: I am NOT personally speculating about this campaign's legitimacy or fraudulence, I'm merely reporting the confusion surrounding it since I was the one to post the link in the first place and felt a responsibility to do so. I've contacted the gym about the confusion and will update ASAP.

ETA: and now the organiser has disabled comments because I guess too many people were questioning their motives. Which doesn’t really make me feel better about it.

Thank you for posting this. We were at Spirit Sports this weekend and the news was devastating. Watching Nfinity perform in his memory was so heavy, the entire arena was crying. Everyone was a little friendlier that day and showed some extra love.

I'm not sure; there's a lot of back and forth. This is the gofundme posted on the CFSD Twitter account, but lots of people are claiming that the organizer keeps upping the money requested and posting inaccurate information about Mr. James and the accident he was involved in (it's possible that if it is a fraud, they're grifting the gym as well). I'm not going to guess either way. But since I initially posted the link, I felt responsible for updating its status. And while I initially took it down in my first update, I thought I should leave it up so people can know which fund I’m referring to? In the event there’s more than one? Just trying to think ahead, but I will take it down if I find out for sure it’s fake.

Anyway, I'd strongly suggest everyone read the comments on the page to decide its legitimacy for themselves before they donate, and also read some of the great ways people are remembering their friend/family member/teammate. I've contacted the gym about the confusion surrounding this fund, as I'm sure others have done as well. Will update to reflect developments.

touching. But this is why i never donate to go fund me, to many fraudsters, and go fund me seems to be a super easy way to dupe people into donating money with no actual legit evidence they are connected someway.

I’m not saying it’s fraudulent, but 40k is quite a lot for a funeral. I buried my mom last year for 10k. If people are questioning why the amount keeps going up, that seems suspicious to me

Just my two-cents here: I work in the life insurance industry. Usually the most basic burial plan is 10k. That's generally your most basic option. 40k isn't that unreasonable anymore depending on the type of burial wanted. Especially if one doesn't have a life insurance plan; generally people will pay up front to avoid interest. Not to mention emotions are high and people often aren't in the right mentality to 'shop around'. Not saying a 10k burial option isn't available, just pointing out 40k isn't too off the beaten path. It's astonishing how much it can cost. :(

Having buried a father and both in-laws, the costs and charges are much like weddings. We had two cremations (with viewings prior) and a burial, far from elaborate, and they ranged from $13,000-18,000. It's easy when you're grieving to be talked into the best cemetery plot locations, columbarium shelf locations, most expensive vaults/caskets/urns, funeral attire for deceased and family, largest viewing rooms for long hours, private family space/kitchen access at the viewing, catering meals for family, flying in family that can't afford or are too elderly to travel, flower arrangements, limo transportation for the deceased/family/close friends, police escort to the plot, tombstone.... I understand the concern of fraudulent GoFundMe's, but if the amount or changing of the amount is the concern, our budget changed several times with each death. His was a heartbreaking and tragic death, I can't even imagine burying a child.
